UPCOMING GAMES
The Big Green wrap up a four-game homestand on Thursday evening when they host twin-state rival Vermont before heading to Loudonville, New York to face Siena on Saturday.
LAST TIME OUT
Dartmouth challenged a tough Holy Cross team and even led in the early minutes of the third quarter, but eventually succumbed to the Crusaders' late push and fell 68-55. Holy Cross became the first team to shoot above 50 percent from the field against the Big Green this season. Three teams accomplished that level of efficiency against Dartmouth last season.
LAWLOR IMPRESSES
Olivia Lawlor, Dartmouth's leading scorer so far this season, dropped a career-high 20 points, including 17 first-half points, Sunday against Holy Cross. She's the first freshman to score 20 points for the Big Green since Katie Douglas' 20-point effort on Feb. 23, 2019. Lawlor's 11.0 points per game leads all Ivy League freshmen, edging Yale's Kiley Capstraw (10.7).
DEFENSIVE PRESSURE
The Big Green ramped up the defensive pressure and recorded 15 steals against Holy Cross and it was Dartmouth's most in a single game since March 3, 2012 (15 against Columbia). 15 steals marked the third-most in a single game by any Ivy League team this season.
Mekkena Boyd has led Dartmouth's defensive efforts in each of the past two games and is the only player in the Ivy League with five or more steals in back-to-back outings.
ALL-TIME VERSUS VERMONT
Dartmouth is 17-21 all-time against its twin-state rival. 2021's 64-46 loss to the Catamounts broke a three-game winning streak in the all-time series that covered 2017, 2018 and 2019. Dartmouth and Vermont engaged in some closely contested battles between 2013 and 2016 with each of the four season's contests being decided by no more than five points. Each of the last four matchups have been decided by double digits.
SCOUTING THE CATAMOUNTS
Vermont rides a three-game winning streak into Thursday's tilt. They defeated Army West Point, 60-37, before another dominant performance against Stonehill and a narrow victory over Siena in last weekend's TD Bank Classic. Emma Utterback leads the team with 15.0 points per game and serves as an even better facilitator, ranking top-20 in the nation in assists per game (5.9). The Catamounts rank 29th in the nation in 3-point percentage (37.6) and had an impressive 8-of-18 showing from beyond the arc against Siena.
ALL-TIME VERSUS SIENA
Saturday's game is the first meeting of the Big Green and the Saints since Jan. 2, 2006, when Dartmouth earned an 86-82 win to snap a three-game losing streak in the all-time series and earn its first win since 1999. A home-and-home series persisted between the two non-conference foes from 1992-93 until 2000, but 2005 and 2006 have represented the only meetings since then. The Big Green's record in the all-time series stands at 5-8.
SCOUTING THE SAINTS
Siena split the weekend at the TD Bank Classic with a victory over Oakland and a loss to Vermont. Anajah Brown leads the team with 11.3 points per game and Ahniysha Jackson, a frequent shooter from downtown, follows with 9.7 points per game. Only 21 players across all of Division I have attempted more 3-pointers than Jackson.
FACING FORMER FOXES
The head coaches of Dartmouth's two most recent opponents, Holy Cross and Vermont, are both former Marist women's basketball players. Maureen Magarity, whose Crusaders squad defeated Dartmouth on Sunday, starred for the Foxes from 2001-04. Vermont's Alisa Kresge, the program's all-time assists leader, had one year of overlap with Magarity during her time in Poughkeepsie, New York (2003-07).
LOOKING AHEAD
Dartmouth returns home on Tuesday, Dec. 6 to face UAlbany at 2 p.m. and then heads to Monmouth for a Saturday tilt in West Long Branch, New Jersey.
