WELCOME BACK
It feels like it has been a long time since it's been lacrosse season (well, it kind of has been). After just one game in 2021 and four in 2020, the Dartmouth men's lacrosse team is more than ready to kick off the 2022 season at home against Merrimack on Saturday.
Â
SCOUTING THE WARRIORS
The visitors head into the weekend winless after narrow losses to Hofstra (8-7) and Boston University (12-10).
Â
A former Division II powerhouse, Merrimack made the switch from the Northeast-10 Conference to the D1 Northeast Conference in 2020, but never actually got to play any NEC games before the remainder of the season was canceled. Merrimack did play a full season in 2021, going 5-5 overall and 4-4 in conference action.
Â
LAST TIME AGAINST MERRIMACK
On Feb. 15, 2020, less than a month before the remainder of the season was canceled due to COVID-19, the Big Green and the Warriors met for the first time in program history in North Andover. Dartmouth was victorious, defeating the two-time D2 national champion by a score of 13-11.
Â
George Prince led the way with a career-high nine points (6G, 3A) while
Tommy Rogan was second with six points (4G, 2A), proving himself important in his first collegiate game by scoring all three goals in the fourth quarter. In net,
Daniel Hincks made 14 saves.
Â
CALLAHAN AND COMPANY
Brendan Callahan is back for his eighth year at Dartmouth after being named the 10th head coach in the program's 93-year history in August of 2014. He is joined behind the bench by associate head coach and recruiting coordinator
Joe Conner and assistant coach
Matt Dugan.
Â
CLASS OF 2022
The senior class is quite a large one. Including fifth years
George Prince and
Matt Paul, there are 10 players who will be ending their collegiate careers this spring. The Class of 2022 is made up of
Henry Stites,
Daniel Hincks,
Foster Burnley,
Greyson Ergenbright,
Peter Rizzotti,
Colin Prince,
Andrew Cave and
Spencer Warezak.
Â
ROOKIES
The Class of 2025 is 12 members strong and ready to make a difference for the Big Green this season. Appearing in their first collegiate games on Saturday are
Tyler Ford,
Quinn Moore,
Cam Hitchcock,
Joe Azelby,
Brandon Ventarola,
Colin Niehaus,
Griffin O'Neil,
Vincent Gandolfo,
Quintin Campbell,
Holden Deck and
Mason Morel.
Â
Some of the sophomore class didn't get to play in Dartmouth's game against Tufts back in 2021 so they too will be kicking off their college careers this weekend.
Â
AND IN NET
There are three goalies on the roster this season:
- Daniel Hincks, who saw a lot of playing time as a freshman, started all four games as a sophomore in 2020 and started the one game last season.
- Hunter Binney, who played 6:42 in the game against Tufts in 2021 as a freshman.
- Mason Morel, who is in his first season.
UP NEXT FOR DARTMOUTH
The Green will be on the road for two games, starting with Bryant next Saturday.
