PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Emma Koch had a season-high 10 points in Dartmouth's 79-54 loss to Penn at the Palestra on Saturday.
The junior went 3-6 (.500) in field goals and 4-5 (.800) in free throws, getting her first double-double of the year with her 10 rebounds and 10 points.
Doreen Ariik followed close behind with eight points. The Big Green had 30 bench points to the Quakers' 28 and won the free throw game (16-19, .842).
Dartmouth (3-22, 2-11) at Penn (12-13, 7-6)
The Quakers came out strong on their senior day, hitting three treys in the first five minutes to make it a 13-0 contest. After Koch got the Big Green on the board soon after, play was pretty even until the final whistle, with Penn having a slight 13-11 advantage (26-11).
The home team had a smaller run to start the second before Ariik opened scoring for Dartmouth 94 seconds in. The Big Green kept the second quarter score pretty close and their first 3-pointer (courtesy of
Allie Harland) only helped their cause. Fouls continued to go in the Green's favor and two free throws by Koch and one from
Grace Niekelski had them going 6-8 (.750). A last second 3-pointer from
Karina Mitchell ended the half on a high note (52-28).
A three-point play by Koch, two points apiece by
Rosie Jennings and
Mekkena Boyd and two more shots from the charity stripe by Koch gave Dartmouth an 8-3 advantage in the first four minutes of the third quarter. Penn had a resurgence courtesy of Jordan Obi, who had five straight points. Four consecutive free throws by Jennings had the visitors poised to win the third, but another shot by the Quakers with less than a second to go made it even at 16 points apiece (68-44).
Penn came to play in the final quarter, but Dartmouth did well to keep up. A
Mia Curtis jumper and two foul shots by
Victoria Page before the halfway point had the teams neck and neck. Scoring was low over the final five minutes, with just three Quaker free throws and two for
Katie Douglas occurring (79-54).
Dartmouth will honor its two seniors before closing the season against Harvard on Saturday.
