THIS WEEKEND
Dartmouth men's lacrosse will remain on the road this weekend as it faces Siena on Saturday, meeting for the first time almost 17 years to the day after the last time the two teams met.
Â
LAST TIME OUT
After suffering a close loss to Merrimack in the season opener, the Big Green rebounded on the road last Saturday with an 11-9 victory over Bryant.
- Matt Paul led the way with four goals, while Colin McGill and George Prince both had three-point performances.
- Daniel Hincks picked up his first win of the season by stopping a career-high 19 shots.
- Mitchell Myers led with nine ground balls and took all of the team's faceoffs, going 12-21 (.571) at the X.
- Although the Bulldogs scored first in the opening quarter, the Big Green took the lead following three straight goals and never surrendered it.
- Dartmouth led 3-2 after the first, 7-4 at the half and 9-7 after the third quarter. Andrew Johnston scored the first goal of his career and, even though Bryant got one back with 49 ticks remaining, Dartmouth held on for the win.
SCOUTING THE SAINTS
Siena has three more games under its belts than Dartmouth, entering its second home game of the year with a record of 1-3. The Saints had a slow start to 2022, falling to LIU (14-7), Providence (13-8) and No. 15 Army West Point (20-10) before finally getting a win in the form of a 14-10 defeat of UMass Lowell last Sunday.
Â
LAST TIME AGAINST SIENA
The year is 2005. Let's set the scene for the last time the Big Green and the Saints met.
1)Â Â Â Â YouTube had just been created.
2)Â Â Â George W. Bush was President.
3)Â Â Â Lance Armstrong won his seventh Tour de France.
4)Â Â Â Destiny's Child broke up and Carrie Underwood won American Idol.
5)Â Â Â Grey's Anatomy was on tv (well, it still is).
6)Â Â Â Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston divorced.
7)Â Â Â Most households still couldn't use the phone and the internet at the same time.
8)Â Â Â Tom Cruise jumped on a couch.
9)Â Â Â The Patriots were Superbowl Champion.
10) Â Head coach
Brendan Callahan was a sophomore at Stony Brook, a season in which he appeared in 11 games, started eight, and compiled a record of 5-3 in net. Associate head coach
Joe Conner was a sophomore at Mount St. Mary's and assistant coach
Matt Dugan was still pretty new to high school. Some of the current players on the team hadn't turned two yet.
Â
Now that we've had a little blast from the past. On March 6, 2005, Dartmouth defeated Siena by a score of 17-9 at home after four goals apiece from Jamie Coffin and
Ryan Danehy (who went on to be an assistant coach at his alma mater for six years).
Â
LEADING THE WAY
It's still early days and no clear leader has been established yet, but we'll be there soon. Paul and McGill both have five points, with all of Paul's points coming from tallies. Paul and McGill have each scored one of the team's two man-up goals.
Â
Myers has grabbed the most ground balls with nine, while
Peter Rizzotti is right behind with eight. Myers also has taken the majority of the faceoffs, going 15-28 (.536). In net,
Daniel Hincks has seen all 120 minutes of action, making 35 saves and allowing 17 goals for  a .673 save percentage and 8.50 goals against average.
