Wrapping Up a Home Stand
After pulling off its first Ivy League sweep since May of 2018 with three wins over Princeton, the Dartmouth baseball team closes out a four-game home stand by welcoming the Siena Saints to Red Rolfe Field at Biondi Park on Wednesday afternoon. The Big Green have won five straight games and 13 of their last 18 contests — ever since spring officially arrived on March 20. The team is averaging nearly nine runs a game during those 18 contest while posting a staff ERA of 4.44. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+ with Wayne Young '72 and Brett Franklin calling the action on the field.
The Overall Record vs. Siena
• Dartmouth is 8-2-1 all-time against the Saints, winning five of the last six meetings with the other being a 9-9 tie in 2017.
• In the last showdown, the Big Green earned a 6-4 victory in 2019 as Nate Ostmo had three hits and three RBIs, while he and Matt Feinstein both hit long balls.
• Dartmouth has hosted Siena six times, winning five, including the inaugural game at Red Rolfe Field at Biondi Park on April 1, 2009 thanks to a five-run eighth for an 8-6 victory.
• Tip of the cap to Siena head coach Tony Rossi, the longest-tenured Division I coach in the country in his 53rd year at the helm. He has a career record of 931-1,178-8.
Player Spotlight: Sophomore Nathan Cmeyla
Last week, Cmeyla hit .538 (7-for-13) with two triples and a home run, helping the Big Green pick up a road win at Albany, 12-5, prior to sweeping the Tigers. He has hit safely in 10 of his last 11 games, batting .400 in that span, including three triples in the last five contests to put him fourth nationally in triples per game (0.17). National Top Five
Along with
Nathan Cmeyla ranking fourth in triples per game in Division I, Dartmouth has two other players who rank in the top five in national statistical categories.
Tyler Cox boasts a .430 average, which ranks third, and 1.79 hits per game (fourth), while
Justin Murray is fifth in doubles per game (0.52). The last Big Green player to lead the country in any statistic was Jeff Keller '14, who had 0.53 doubles per game.
Double Duty
Senior
Justin Murray managed his dual duties quite well in the final game against Princeton on Sunday. He started the game on the mound, throwing four scoreless innings before leaving after six-plus stanzas to earn the win. And at the plate, he was a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs and four RBIs, including the game-capping three-run homer in the eighth inning of the 16-7 victory.
