HANOVER, N.H. – Despite a five-goal surge in under two minutes late in the fourth quarter, Dartmouth men's lacrosse couldn't score the equalizer, falling to Stony Brook by a score of 14-13 at Scully Fahey Field on Tuesday afternoon.
Â
George Prince and
Tommy Rogan both netted two goals and added three helpers for a team-leading five points, while
Matt Paul and
Colin McGill both had hat tricks (with McGill's coming in the span of a few minutes in the final quarter).
Daniel Hincks had 11 saves in the loss.

Dartmouth (4-5) vs. Stony Brook (6-4)
The Seawolves jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first two and a half minutes before
Payton St. Geme's first career goal cut that edge in half. Another for Stony Brook put the visitors up by two again, but tallies by Rogan and
Henry Bonnie – the latter coming with 2.9 ticks to go – tied the game at three.
Â
Prince's goal four minutes into the second gave Dartmouth its first lead of the game, while Paul's a minute later gave the home team a little cushion. The next four went the way of the Seawolves to give them a two-goal advantage.
Â
Another Stony Brook goal at the start of the third quarter, its fifth in a row, put the visitors up by three before Paul netted his second of the game following a turnover by the other team. The Seawolves scored another two to pull ahead by four before Paul completed his hat trick with 65 seconds left (10-7). Â
Â
Stony Brook opened scoring early in the fourth quarter, but Rogan responded 12 seconds later with his second tally of the afternoon. The Seawolves started to put more distance behind them with two straight before things got very interesting. Trailing, 13-8, with 4:17 to go, goals by Prince, McGill and
Ben DiGiovanni (the first of his career) in 42 seconds got Dartmouth within two. Twenty-six seconds later, Stony Brook made it a three-goal game, while McGill scored two more 15 seconds apart to make it a 14-13 game late in the quarter. A pair of badly timed Green penalties with 46 seconds to go didn't allow for any more good looks before the game was done.
Â
On Saturday, Dartmouth will play its penultimate home game of the season when it faces Yale at 12 p.m.
