Â
HANOVER, N.H. -Â The Big Green lightweights gathered for an end-of-year celebration with tacos and awards on May 24 during which head coach
Dan Roock announced his retirement and handed out the final team awards of his tenure.
Â
The Joshua D. Blum '90 Award, given to the most improved lightweight oarsman, was bestowed upon senior
Conrad Crans. The Camden, Maine, native started the season in the sixth seat for the second varsity before moving into the stroke position to finish the spring.
Â
Sophomore
Ethan Swergold (Mill Valley, Calif.) received the John L. Branscom Jr. '81 Award, which is given to the outstanding novice lightweight oarsman. After losing his freshman season to the pandemic, Swergold made his presence felt at stroke for the third varsity in 2022.
Â
This Louis C. Breer Memorial Bowl is presented to the oarsman who, through leadership and conscientious effort, has best shown sportsmanship as a member of the lightweight crew.
Jack Stone (Providence, R.I.) embodied those characteristics and rowed in the sixth seat of the winning boat at the Biglin Bowl, ending Harvard's 14-year stranglehold on the race.
Â
Freshman
Ryan Tripp (Piedmont, Calif.) earned the Timothy Ryerson Award — given in memory of an outstanding Dartmouth oarsman — to the individual who has made the most significant contribution to freshman lightweight crew.
Â
Rounding out the awards was the one presented to the most valuable member of the varsity team. The Big Green Oar for 2022 was given to senior
Cooper Tuckerman (Bozeman, Mont.) who brought the experience he gained from competing in the Olympic Trials in March to the varsity boat back in Hanover.
Â
Next season's Commodore will be rising senior Christopher Stich (Old Greenwich, Conn.), and the team will be captained by his classmate Stone.
