CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Dartmouth men's lightweight rowing opened its season at the Head of the Charles this weekend, competing in one race on Saturday and two on Saturday.
"I'm proud of all three crews performances this weekend," said head coach
Trevor Michelson. "Our championship double, comprised of two freshmen, placed in the top half of a tough field filled with national team and Olympic hopefuls. Our four fought hard in tough conditions to place 12
th out of 18. 10 seconds separated fifth through 10
th, so it was great to see them right in the hunt. The highlight of the weekend was our eight, who placed fourth!"
The Big Green's final race of the weekend, the lightweight eights, saw them finish in fourth, posting a time of 15:06.013 to beat out both Yale and Princeton, who claimed fifth and sixth in the race.
Dartmouth finished ninth in the championship doubles on Saturday, its lone race of the day. They finished with a time of 17:24.695.
In their first race on Sunday, the Big Green captured 12
th place in the lightweight fours with a time of 17:23.703.
"The group has been hard at work all fall making progress and they showed that this weekend," said Michelson. "That being said, we've got more work to do, and will have to continue to train hard as we close out the fall and gear up for winter training."
Dartmouth returns home to compete against Harvard on Saturday, Nov. 4.
