Dartmouth vs. Bryant
Date and Time: Monday, Nov. 6 | 5 p.m.
Location: Smithfield, Rhode Island | Chace Athletic Center
All-Time Series: 4-3
Last Meeting: Nov. 7, 2022 (L, 70-63)
MONDAY NIGHT HOOPS
Dartmouth travels to Bryant to open the season against the Bulldogs for a second year in a row. Fans can stream the game live on ESPN+ and follow live stats, which can be found linked on the schedule page.
COACH CIMINO'S DEBUT
Monday is not only the season opener, but the debut of new Gail Koziara Boudreaux '82 and Family Head Coach
Linda Cimino. If the Big Green leave Chace Athletic Center with a victory, she'll be the first Dartmouth head coach to win her debut since Jacqueline Hullah in 1984. Cimino joined the Big Green after leading turnarounds at Caldwell, Binghamton and most recently, St. Francis Brooklyn.
ALL-TIME VERSUS BRYANT
Dartmouth is 4-3 against Bryant all-time, but has dropped each of the last two meetings, including last year's season opener at Leede Arena. The New England foes first met in 2009, kicking off a home-and-home series that would rehash yearly until the 2013-14 season. Monday night is the first meeting in Smithfield since 2012, which Dartmouth comfortably won 64-53.
SEASON OPENERS
The Big Green saw their streak of four straight season-opening wins snapped in their 2021-22 debut against Rhode Island. Dartmouth is 5-5 over its last 10 season openers, and among those are two battles with Bryant (2012-13 and 2022-23).
NEW FACES
The Big Green welcome five first-years: 5-8 guard
Nina Minicozzi, 5-11 guard
Meena Tate, 6-1 forward
Cate MacDonald, 6-0 forward
Lucija Banovic and 5-8 guard
Sierra Carson. Tate hails from Iowa City, Iowa, the same town as 2022-23 captain
Emma Koch. Banovic, a native of Zagreb, Croatia, is one of two international talents on the roster, joining
Doreen Ariik (Kenya). Dartmouth also welcomes a new coaching staff. Gail Koziara Boudreaux '82 and Family Head Coach
Linda Cimino and assistant coach
Robert Isme both join the Big Green from St. Francis Brooklyn. Rounding out the coaching staff,
Kerri Reaves was the head coach at Central Connecticut State for three seasons and
Anh-Dao Tran previously led basketball operations at Brown.
RETURNING SCORERS
Dartmouth returns each of its three leading scorers from the 2022-23 season in
Victoria Page (10.1),
Mekkena Boyd (8.3) and
Mia Curtis (7.7). Page scored more than 20 points in four games last season, including a career-high 25-point performance in a road win over eventual CAA Tournament champion Monmouth. Her 47 3-pointers were the most for any Big Green player since the 2018-19 season.
ON THE DEFENSIVE END
Mekkena Boyd led the team with 58 steals last year, which was the highest total for any Big Green player since the 2014-15 season. Her 2.2 steals per game ranked fifth in the Ivy League last season.
2023-24 SLATE
The Big Green are set to play a 26-game slate, which will feature 13 home dates. Some key matchups in the non-conference schedule include defending America East champion Vermont (Nov. 30) and the first-ever meeting between Dartmouth and UC Riverside (Dec. 4). Ivy League play begins Saturday, Jan. 6 against Brown. The Big Green get to play their first three Ancient Eight opponents at Leede Arena.
SCOUTING BRYANT
The Bulldogs are coming off a 9-21 2023-24 season (3-13 in the America East) and welcome back their leading scorer, Mariona Planes Fortuny, who scored more than 15 points per game and dropped 22 on Dartmouth a season ago. Bryant was strong on the boards in 2022-23, leading the America East in rebounds per game. Like the Big Green, the Bulldogs welcomed a new head coach during the offseason, 2008 Bryant graduate Lynne-Ann Kokoski.
IVY LEAGUE PRESEASON POLL
Dartmouth was picked eighth in the 2023 Ivy League Preseason Poll as defending champion Princeton, which won an NCAA Tournament game a season ago, landed the top spot. Columbia, coming off a run to the 2023 WNIT Championship Game, was picked second in a loaded Ancient Eight.
HOME OPENER COMING UP
Dartmouth takes the court in Leede Arena for the first time this season on Sunday, Nov. 12 against Siena at 1 p.m.
