HANOVER, N.H. — Following an impressive week, highlighted by a stellar performance in a 76-64 win over New Hampshire, Dartmouth men's basketball sophomore
Jayden Williams has been named Ivy League Player of the Week, as announced on Monday. The Windermere, Fla. native stepped up in a big way with the Big Green's top two leading scorers (
Dusan Neskovic and
Brandon Mitchell-Day) out for both games due to injury.
Williams is Dartmouth's first Ivy League Player of the Week since
Dame Adelekun last Jan. 30. The Big Green also had two Rookie of the Week honorees last season in
Brandon Mitchell-Day and
Jackson Munro.
Williams began last week with a career-high 28 points in last Wednesday's 76-64 win over New Hampshire. UNH entered with a 6-3 record, having already beaten Ivy League teams Brown and Columbia. Williams scored 20 of his points in the first half and finished the day 8-for-10 from 3-point range. It was just one made three from tying the program record, tied for the fifth most makes in NCAA Division I men's basketball this season and the most makes by a Big Green player since Brendan Barry knocked down eight on Dec. 14, 2018 against Boston University. Amongst the Ivy League, Williams' 28 points are tied for fifth most this season while his eight made threes are first (three more than anyone else). He also set career highs in rebounds (5), assists (4) and blocks (2) against the Wildcats.
Williams went on to score 13 points on Saturday vs. Marist, posting back-to-back double-figure scoring efforts after two double-figure games the entirety of his rookie season. Over his last five games, Williams has knocked down 17-of-29 from 3-point range (59 percent) and he's up to 9.9 points per game on the season (third on the team).
The Big Green will conclude their three-game homestand on Wednesday evening when Boston University comes to Hanover for a 7 p.m. tip. The contest will be televised on NESN in the region and streamed live on ESPN+ with Brett Franklin and Dave Faucher providing commentary, while Brandon Bojarsky will call the action on a free audio stream through DartmouthSports.com, the official website of Dartmouth Athletics.
