HANOVER, N.H. — Judy Parish Oberting '91 has been named the 2023 recipient of the American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) Women's Ice Hockey Founders Award, as announced Wednesday afternoon. The award honors a member of the hockey community or college coaching profession who has contributed to the overall growth and development of the sport of women's ice hockey in the United States through their enthusiasm, passion and selflessness.
Parish Oberting served as Dartmouth's head coach from the 1998-99 season through the 2002-03 campaign. During her time at the helm, she led Dartmouth to a 114-40-8 record, which included four-straight seasons of 20 or more victories.
Dartmouth's accomplishments during Parish Oberting's tenure speak volumes to her impact on the program. The Big Green secured ECAC Hockey titles in 2001 and 2003 to go along with Ivy League championships in 2001 and 2002. Her 2002-03 team won a program-record 27 games and finished third at the NCAA Tournament.
Parish Oberting was honored as the national women's coach of the year following the 1999-2000 season and was a finalist for the award following Dartmouth's run to the Frozen Four in 2002-03.
Outside of Parish Oberting's sparkling accomplishments as a coach, the 1991 graduate sits second on Dartmouth's all-time leading scorers list. She also recorded the most assists in a season in program history, notching 55 during the 1990-91 campaign. She was also a three-time All-Ivy League selection.
Parish Oberting was a trailblazer in the international game as well, playing as a member of the U.S. National Team at the inaugural IIHF Women's World Championship in 1990. She recorded four points in five games as the Americans took silver at the event.
