PRINCETON, N.J. — The Dartmouth women's basketball team suffered a 64-47 loss to defending Ivy League champion Princeton on the road Saturday afternoon at Jadwin Gymnasium. The game marked the end of the Big Green's four-game road stretch.
The Tigers led by eight at halftime and took control with an explosive third quarter on their way to a ninth consecutive win. Princeton improved to 17-5 (8-2), while Dartmouth dropped to 2-22 (0-10).
Victoria Page led the Big Green offensively with 12 points while
Olivia Lawlor also reached double figures, finishing with 10.
Emma Koch, who has grabbed double-digit rebounds in back-to-back games, grabbed a game-high 12. Saturday marked her seventh game this season with double-digit boards – only three players in the Ivy League have more than Koch. Kaitlyn Chen and Madison St. Rose combined for 29 points to pace the Tiger offense.
Princeton grabbed its first double-digit lead at the 4:44 mark of the first on Julia Cunningham's 3-pointer. Dartmouth was within seven less than two minutes later with Page's layup in transition, but the Tigers eventually entered the second quarter with a 10-point edge after Chen's last-second jumper.
The Big Green gained ground in the second quarter, eventually outscoring the preseason Ivy League favorite by two over the 10-minute stretch. Dartmouth was within six points after a score-stop-score to open the quarter, capped by
Olivia Lawlor's strong post work, and was within the same margin once again at the 5:56 mark with another Page bucket. Princeton later led by 13 with less than two minutes remaining until halftime before Dartmouth finished with a quick 5-0 run highlighted by
Karina Mitchell's triple.
Kaitlyn Chen scored eight of her game-high 16 points in the third quarter as Princeton poured in 23 points to Dartmouth's 10, effectively putting the game away. Chen went to the line at the 6:21 mark and hit both free throws to put Princeton back on top by double digits and the Big Green were never able to bring the deficit within 10 for the remainder of the contest. The preseason ivy League favorites held their first 20-point edge in the final minute of the third when Madison St. Rose knocked down a pair of free throws. Dartmouth found success in the paint during the fourth quarter as Lawlor and
Clare Meyer had two field goals apiece with the Big Green outscoring the Tigers 14-10 over the final 10 minutes.
Returning to Leede Arena for the first time since Jan. 21, Dartmouth is set to host Cornell in its Play 4 Kay game on Friday, Feb. 17. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. and the game will be streamed on ESPN+ with Bob Lipman and Lori McBride on the call.
