HANOVER, N.H. – Maja Desmond of the Dartmouth women's lacrosse team was named the Ivy League Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.
Â
Desmond becomes the first Big Green player to win an Ivy League women's lacrosse weekly award this season. This is the second time Desmond has received an Ivy weekly award in her career after earning the same recognition once last season as a freshman.
Â
Desmond was a key cog in the midfield for the Big Green this past week, helping Dartmouth to its first two road victories of the season. In Tuesday's 16-7 victory over UMass Lowell, Desmond finished with four draw controls, one caused turnover, and one ground ball. She was also a force on the offensive side of the ball, scoring a hat-trick while dishing out three assists for a career-high six points.
Â
Desmond finished with three draw controls, one caused turnover, and one ground ball on Saturday as the Big Green defeated Columbia, 16-8. She also tallied another goal, bringing her season tally to 16.
Â
Desmond and the Big Green take their three-game winning streak on the road to Vermont tomorrow evening at 5:30 p.m. and the game will be available to stream on ESPN+. Dartmouth returns to the confines of Scully-Fahey Field on Saturday afternoon for the home finale against Princeton. Opening draw is scheduled for 12 p.m. and the contest will be available to stream nationally on ESPN+ and internationally on Stretch Internet.
