HANOVER, N.H. — After each being named All-Americans in 2022,
William Bender and
Jacob Hudgins of the Dartmouth men's heavyweight rowing team have been named Empacher-IRCA All-Americans once again, as announced on Tuesday. Bender was named to the first team for a second straight season, earning his third straight All-America honor. Hudgins was named to the second team after being named to the first team in 2022. Additionally, 19 Big Green student-athletes have been named Empacher-IRCA Scholar-Athletes, as also announced on Tuesday.
Bender was a key member of the Varsity Eight all season, including in the stroke seat at the IRA National Championship. Hudgins was also in the Varsity Eight all year, including in the six seat at IRAs. The Big Green Varsity Eight enjoyed a strong 2023 season, beating Brown on Apr. 22 while also topping Wisconsin and Syracuse, and later Boston University, during the Lake Morey Invite. Dartmouth's Varsity Eight finished fifth at Eastern Sprints and 10th overall in the highly-competitive IRA National Championship. As a team, the Big Green finished in seventh; the Varsity Four won bronze while the Second and Third Varsity Eights each reached the grand finals, finishing fifth and fourth, respectively.
