ZUG, Switzerland – Liz Keady Norton, the head coach of women's hockey, coached Team USA in the 2024 IIHF U18 Women's World Championships for the second straight year, this time taking home the gold medal. Keady Norton served as the head coach this year, following last year's assistant coach role and a bronze medal finish.
Â
Team USA was undefeated in the tournament, collecting dominant wins against Slovakia (7-1), Switzerland (8-1), Sweden (4-0), and Germany (4-0). In the semifinals, Team USA defeated Finland 4-2 before beating Czechia 5-1 for the gold.
Â
In the gold medal game, Team USA got out to a quick start, outshooting their opponent 14-6 through the first period and capitalizing twice to lead 2-0 at the end of the period. Czechia cut the deficit in half during the second period despite being outshot 14-6 again, but three unanswered goals, including one in the first five minutes and final five minutes of the period, secured the gold medal.
Â
"Winning gold was an unbelievable experience that was the culmination of a lot of hard work, commitment and growth from everyone involved over the last year," Keady Norton said. "Having the opportunity to work alongside some of the best coaches and players in the world in that environment was incredible."Â
Â
Keady Norton also said she is "so grateful to USA hockey for the opportunity to lead that group and be part of something so special."
Â
With this year's gold, Team USA has won a medal in the past 16 straight tournaments and won their ninth gold medal in Team USA history.
Keady Norton returns to the Big Green ahead of the final nine games of the regular season. In her first weekend back, the Big Green went 1-1 and prepare for upcoming matchups with Cornell and Colgate.
