HUNTSVILLE, TEXAS – The Big Green and Bearkats faced off for the second straight day, as the Big Green looked to even the series. The Big Green stayed within two runs through the fifth inning, but five Bearkats runs in the sixth inning were too much for the Big Green to overcome, falling 8-3.
Â
The Big Green are now 0-2 in the young season while Sam Houston collects their second straight win, moving to 4-2.
Â
The Bearkats continued last night's pattern of opening a scoring inning with a double, as they did just that in the bottom half of the second inning. Jeffery David then advanced from second on a ground out before scoring on a wild pitch to give the Bearkats the 1-0 lead. They would add a second run in their half of the third inning when they led off the inning with another double. Jace Martinez advanced to third on a fly out before another wild pitch allowed a second run to score and the Bearkats to take a 2-0 lead.
Â
The Big Green and Bearkats exchanged runs in the fifth inning.
Tyler Robinson hit a one out double, advanced to third on a
Taer Rodriguez bunt single, and scored when
Elliot Krewson flew out. In Sam Houston's half of the inning, a one out triple put a runner on third and a fly out scored the runner as the Bearkats retook a two-run lead.
Â
While the Big Green went in order in their half of the sixth inning, the Bearkats did not go as quietly. They made one out to start the inning, but four straight singles followed by a double scored three runs. The second out was recorded five batters after the first, by way of sacrifice fly, however allowed a fourth run to score. The sixth hit of the inning, and fifth single, scored the fifth and final run, giving the Bearkats an 8-1 lead.
Â
Â
Dartmouth added two runs in the eighth inning when Krewson and
Kolton Freeman singled, and
Max Zajec drew a walk to load the bases. First-year
Ethan Brown collected his first two RBIs of his college career when he doubled to right center, cutting the Bearkats lead to five and creating the 8-3 final.
Â
Senior
Devin Milberg made the start for the Big Green, pitching five innings and allowing three runs on four hits with one walk and two strikeouts.
Nate Isler,
Tyler Cortland, and
Drew Koenen all pitched one inning of relief. Isler surrendered the five run sixth inning, Cortland pitched a perfect seventh inning, and Koenen allowed one hit and dealt one strikeout in the eighth inning.

The Big Green close their opening weekend series with the Bearkats Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for noon eastern standard time and can be followed via live stats on DartmouthSports.com
