Pitching Shines in Baseball's First Win of Season

LONG BEACH, Calif. -- Marco Dumsky shined on the mound for the Big Green in his first start of the season, giving up only two hits and striking out eight in 6.1 innings of work to lead the Big Green to a 3-0 victory over Long Beach State.

The Big Green collect their first win of the season while the Dirtbags fall to 10-4-1 on the year.

Dartmouth took an early lead, getting on the board in the first inning when Tyler Robinson led off the game with a single, eventually coming home to score on a Nathan Cmeyla fly out.

From there, Dumsky stole the show, cruising through his first three innings of work. The Dirtbags were able to secure their first hit in the fourth innings, and despite pressuring in the fourth and fifth innings, Dumsky remained poised on the mound, getting through 6.1 innings before Jack Metzger entered the game in relief. Metzger went 2.2 shutout innings, allowing two hits, walking none and striking out four.

The offense provided insurance in the eighth inning, including a solo home run for Kolton Freeman, his second in as many games, to give the Big Green a 3-0. Freeman went 2-for-3 on the day with a home run, a walk and an RBI. Max Zajec furnished a noteworthy performance at the dish as well, going 2-for-4 with a double.

The Big Green will return to action tomorrow when they face Loyola Marymount for the first of four games against the Lions. Dartmouth will send Nate Isler to the mound for his first start of the season, looking for another dominant pitching performance.
