HANOVER, N.H. --The Dartmouth Big Green came from two runs down to tie the game, but were unable to string together more offense, falling to the Siena Saints, 9-2.
With the loss, the Big Green fall to 10-17 on the year and will shift their focus to the upcoming Ivy League weekend series at Harvard.
The Big Green were trailing 2-0 in the second inning when they first put runs on the board. Jackson Hower led off the inning with an infield single, stealing second base and advancing to third on an error by the catcher. Ethan Brown then grounded out to drive Hower home and cut the Saints lead in half.
Dartmouth picked up where they left off in the third inning, when Zackarie Casebonne led the inning with single, advanced on a ground out, and scored when Elliot Krewson recorded the Big Green's second hit of the inning. Krewson stole second base with two outs and despite getting Kolton Freeman on base, the Big Green were unable to push anymore runs home, sending a tie game into the fourth inning.
The Saints retook a rwo run lead in the fifth but the Big Green were able to keep them off the scoreboard in the next two innings. Despite this, they added one run in the eighth and four in the ninth to secure a 9-2 victory over the Big Green.
Nate Isler got the start on the mound for Dartmouth, allowing two runs on four hits in two innings. Brady Chappell pitched the next 1.2 innings of relief walking two batters and fanning two in his scoreless outing. Shane Bauer gave up two runs and only recorded two outs, taking the loss for the Big Green.
Tyler Cortland was the only other member of the Big Green pitching staff to put up a scoreless performance, allowing only one hit and striking out four in his 1.2 innings of relief. Drew Koenen pitched the next 1.2 relief innings, allowing one run on two hits, and Joseph Chambers finished the day, throwing 1.1 innings and giving up four runs.
The Big Green will return to action on Saturday. They will travel to Harvard for three Ivy League games and look to get back on the right track and build off of last weekend's sweep over Ivy League foe Brown. The Big Green and Crimson will play a doubleheader on Saturday with the games scheduled to start at 11:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. and a single game on Sunday with a noon time first pitch.
