A QUICK TRIP TO HARVARD
The Big Green return to Ivy League action this weekend when they travel to face the Harvard Crimson. Dartmouth will look to get back on track following a midweek loss to Siena and build upon their conference sweep of the Brown Bears last weekend.
Â
LAST TIME OUT
The Siena Saints came into Hanover on Wednesday, looking to break a seven-game losing skid. The Big Green, coming off a walk off victory over Brown, were aiming to string momentum into their next Ivy League series with Harvard.
Â
The Saints got on the board first in the second inning, opening a 2-0 lead on two RBI singles. The Big Green were able to pull within one in their half of the second inning.
Jackson Hower reached on an infield single before stealing second base and advancing to third on an error, coming home to score on an
Ethan Brown ground out. They tied the game in the third inning when
Zackarie Casebonne scored on an
Elliot Krewson single to left center field.
Â
Siena retook a two-run lead in the fifth inning, but this time the Big Green were unable to come back as the Saints added five runs in the final two innings to secure a 9-2 victory.
Â
SCOUTING HARVARD
The Harvard Crimson, currently sitting at 9-20, have an identical Ivy League record to the Big Green, posting a 5-7 conference record thus far. The Crimson are coming off a series win over Princeton, including a 12-run victory in the series finale, and a 17-14 win over Stonehill in their midweek game.
Â
The Crimson are led offensively by Ben Rounds who has a .400 batting average and leads his team with doubles. He is second on the team with five home runs and 22 RBI, sitting only behind teammate Chris Snopek. Snopek, who posts a .234 batting average, has 28 RBI and six long balls this season.
Â
Sean Matson and Callan Fang have each started eight games on the mound for the Crimson, posting the best and third best ERAs on the team. Matson has a .322 earned run average in 44.2 innings pitched, dealing 20 walks and fanning 53 batters. Fang has walked 11 batters and struck out 62 in 46.2 innings pitched.
Cole Cleary is the Crimson's go to reliever, having made 11 appearances so far. In 19 innings, Cleary has dealt walks and strikeouts.
Â
PICKING UP GROUND IN CONFERENCE STANDINGS
The Big Green and Crimson currently post the same record in Ivy league play, sitting at 5-7. With three teams above them tied with a 6-6 record and the Big Green currently in sixth place in the standings, they are in a position to gain important traction in the standings headed into the final two Ivy League series of the year.
