WORCESTER, Mass. — The Dartmouth women's rowing team saw all but one of its crews advance to the grand finals of Women's Eastern Sprints on Sunday, which included the fourth varsity eight coming in second overall, with the 2V and second varsity four each placing fourth.
"A focus for us with two races in a day, was being able to come down and make it to the grand final as the first step," said Dartmouth head coach
John Graves. "Then anything is possible in the final. I thought it was a really nice step for the team to be able to get through those heats and make the top six. The 4V had a final only, but came home with the silver medal."
In that final, the 4V posted a time of 7:39.538, good for second and only trailing Rutgers. The 2V also impressed in finishing second in its heat with a time of 7:15.722, only behind Brown. The Big Green came in fourth in the grand final with a time of 7:13.543, ahead of Michigan State and Boston University. Dartmouth beat the Terriers after falling to BU in the spring opener on Apr. 6.
"Out of all of our crews, the 2V did the best job of taking care of business in the heat then coming back and executing another really good race and taking another step forward in the final," said Graves. "They have made strong progress in the last couple weeks of training."
The varsity eight posted a time of 6:58.174 in its heat, good for second and ahead of Boston College, Cornell and Drexel while only trailing Rutgers. The Big Green's two varsity four boats also placed second in their respective heats, with the second varsity four (B) coming in fourth in its grand final.

"We felt like we made steps forward in all of our boats the last couple weeks, which showed in the heats," said Graves. With two weeks until Ivies, our focus will be improving our consistency between the heat and final."
The Big Green return to action on Saturday and Sunday, May 18-19 at the Ivy League Championship to be held in Princeton, N.J.
