RUMFORD, MAINE – Sitting in first place at the end of Day 1 of the Bates Carnival, the Big Green went on two earn five podium finishes, including the top two spots in the Nordic men's 13.5K Freestyle, to win the Bates Carnival.
John Steel Hagenbuch led the way for the Big Green and the Nordic men, finishing the 13.5K Freestyle in 21:18.4 seconds.
Luke Allan, coming off his sprint victory Friday, earned second, posting a 21:54.7.
Cooper Camp placed eighth (23:02.09),
Asa Chalmers 11
th (23:08.4), and
Dustin Hay 20
th (23:22.0) to wrap up the Big Green skiers in the top-20.
Aaron Power (23:28.1),
Aidan Jacobus (23:54.4),
Aiden Casey (24:40.0), and
Wally Magill (24:49.3) were the other Dartmouth finishers.
The women were led by
Ava Thurston in the 13.5K Freestyle. Thurston earned her first podium of the season, a first-place finish in 25:29.5.
Tatum Witter,
Evie Walton, and
Amelia Tucker all finished back-to-back-to-back, posting a 26:50.5, 26:54.5, and a 26:55.1 respectively, earning them 13
th, 14
th, and 15
th.
Maeve Ingelfinger (27:15.0),
Emma Reeder (27:17.9),
Jasmine Drolet (27:36.7),
Anja Grover (29:10.6),
Virginia Cobb (29:16.9), and
Grace Zanni (29:35.6) also finished the 13.5K Freestyle for the Big Green.
On the Slalom,
Philip Lundquist earned a first-place finish for a combined 1:43.12 across his two runs.
Calum Langmuir finished fourth overall, posting a 1:44.01.
Oscar Zimmer (1:44.15) also finished in the top-10, earning sixth.
Benny Brown was the next Big Green finisher, coming in 14
th with a 1:44.72.
Oliver Morgan and
Dan Gillis also finished in the top-20, posting a 1:45.25 and a 1:45.29.
The Women's Slalom was led by
Zoe Zimmermann, finishing third overall with a combined time of 1:45.41. Friday's winner,
Allie Resnick, was not far behind, finishing fifth overall with a 1:45.81.
Emma Resnick also made her way into the top-10, coming in ninth with a 1:47.21.
Carly Elsinger (1:48.92) rounded out the Dartmouth finishers, posting a 1:48.92.
The Big Green will be back on the slopes next weekend, heading to New York for the St. Lawrence Carnival from Thursday, January 16 through Saturday, January 18. Alpine skiers will race the Giant Slalom on Thursday followed by the Slalom on Friday while Nordic skiers will race at Mt. Van Hoevenberg on Friday and Saturday.
