SMITHFIELD, R.I. - Thanks to a hat trick by Catherine Erb and four goals by Fiona O'Keeffe, Dartmouth defeated Bryant 15-5 at Beirne Stadium. This marks the second time the schools have faced off, both resulting in wins for Dartmouth.Â
"I am very proud of how our team battled today. Bryant is a tough team, and we knew we had to match their intensity for the whole game," Dartmouth head coach Alex McFadden said. "We had too many turnovers in transition, and that is going to be something we need to clean up moving forward, but we were able to capitalize on our strong team play on the offensive and defensive ends."
Along with her four goals, O'Keeffe earned herself four assists. Maja Desmond scored a pair of goals and two assists, while Puccio scored twice. Katina Christensen picked up a goal and an assist, while Lauren Riley and Margaret Maruszewski each grabbed one assist.
The Big Green was neck and neck with the Bulldogs for most of the first half but gained momentum with goals from O'Keeffe and Ryan Hapgood, going into halftime with a 6-4 advantage. Early goals from Samantha Bennett and Mia Puccio extended Dartmouth's lead in the third quarter while three saves by Gisele Todd kept the Bulldogs from inching closer.
In the first seven minutes of the fourth quarter, Erb got a hat trick, firing three back-to-back goals to bring Dartmouth's score to double digits. Kaelynn O'Brien scored Bryant's first goal of the half, but Boo Dewitt returned the favor with a score of her own. O'Keeffe quickly sealed the Bulldogs' fate by scoring two goals in the final three minutes of the game.Â
The Big Green will return home on Tuesday for their game against Siena at 4 p.m.
