SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Following a seven-inning loss to Navy Tuesday, the Big Green returned to the field to face Seton Hall in their final nonconference game ahead of Ivy League play.
While Dartmouth was able to open a lead in the second inning and score its most runs in a game all season, Seton Hall battled back, plating runs in five innings to defeat the Big Green 17-7 in eight innings.
Â
The Big Green led off the second inning with back-to-back walks, putting two runners on. A sacrifice bunt by
Tyler Sirchia advanced the runners for
Alejandro Puig who knocked his first hit of the season to score
Luke Carroll and give Dartmouth a 1-0 lead.
Â
The lead would not last long though as Seton Hall would score four runs on three hits and three walks in their half of the inning to take a 4-1 lead.
Â
Dartmouth responded in the top of the third inning, once again leading off with back-to-back walks. Carroll, who walked in the second inning, reached on an error to load the bases with one out.
Taer Rodriguez then collected his second and third RBI in the past two days, singling through the right side to bring the Big Green within one. A wild pitch brought Carroll into score, as Dartmouth tied the game at four runs apiece.
Â
Once again, Seton Hall took back the momentum from the Big Green. The Pirates began the third inning with two walks, a double, and a single to score two runs before forcing a Dartmouth pitching change. They added five more runs, making the score 11-4 Seton Hall.
Â
Neither team was able to score in the fourth inning, but the Pirates pushed four more runs across in the fifth, knocking three hits to extend their lead to 11.
Â
The Big Green cut into the deficit in the sixth, adding three runs to make it an 15-7 game. Puig led off with a triple before coming home to score on an
Elliot Krewson ground out.
Stefan Di Corrado walked and advanced to second on an
Ethan Brown single, before
Jackson Hower sent them both home on a double to center field.
Â
Seton Hall would add a run in both the seventh and eighth inning to regain a ten-run lead and finish the game in eight innings, defeating the Big Green 17-7.
Â
Andrew Lombana made his second appearance of the season, his first start. He threw the first 1.2 innings, allowing four runs on four hits and four walks.
Â
Shane Bauer made his second appearance on the mound in relief, while
Matt Carey,
Jeff Lee, and
Aidan Plummer made their first appearances of the season. The four relief pitchers pitched the final 5.2 innings, allowing 13 runs on 10 hits.
Â
The Big Green will have Thursday and Friday off before opening conference play this weekend at Princeton. Dartmouth, who went 0-3 against the Tigers last season, will look for its first win in 2025 as well as its first win against the Tigers since 2022.
Â
Dartmouth and Princeton will play a doubleheader on Saturday, with the first game slated to begin at 11:30 a.m., followed by a single game Sunday at 12 p.m. You can watch both games on ESPN+ or follow the live stats on DartmouthSports.com.
