PHILADELPHIA — Penn jumped out to an early lead and the Dartmouth women's basketball team wouldn't go away, but eventually fell 67-59 on Monday afternoon on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Alexandra Eldredge tied a career high with 16 points to lead the offense.

Eldredge shot 3-of-6 from 3-point range while adding six rebounds (to tie a career high), four assists and two steals. Zeynep Ozel added 11 points along with three rebounds and three assists.

Penn had four players with double-figure points, led by 16 from Tina Njike.

With the loss, Dartmouth falls to 9-8 and 0-4 in the Ivy League. Dartmouth improves to 11-6 and 1-3 in the league.

The Big Green pulled even at 25 in the second quarter before the Quakers created some separation. Penn led by four at the half then extended it to as much as 15 in the fourth, but Dartmouth wouldn't go away quietly, getting back to within six and giving itself a change until the end.

FIRST QUARTER:
A tight start saw the score tied at five and seven.
The Penn lead reached 17-11 in the final minute of the first, but Eldredge responded with a jumper as the Quakers took an 18-13 advantage into the second quarter.
SECOND QUARTER:
With Dartmouth trailing 23-18, the Big Green staged a 7-2 run — featuring four free throws and a 3-pointer from Eldredge — which tied the score at 25 with 4:59 on the clock.
Not long after, layups from Debra Hill and Olivia Lawlor pulled the Big Green back within two at 31-29, but Penn took a 33-29 lead into halftime.
THIRD QUARTER:
Penn scored 10 of the first 13 second-half points to open an 11-point, 43-32 lead with 6:56 remaining.
The Big Green had an answer, scoring seven straight points as another Eldredge three pulled Dartmouth back within four at 43-39.
Penn had an answer, however, as a Simone Sawyer 3-pointer gave the Quakers a 50-41 lead after three quarters of play.
FOURTH QUARTER:
Penn's lead continued to grow in the fourth, reaching 15 at 63-48 after another Sawyer triple.
With Dartmouth still trailing by 11, 65-54, the Big Green had one final rally. Two Eldredge free throws and a 3-pointer from Nina Minicozzi pulled Dartmouth within 65-59 with 1:24 on the clock.
The Big Green had chances to pull closer, but couldn't get any closer in the 67-59 defeat.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Dartmouth shot 35.7% from the floor (20-of-56), including 31.8% from 3-point range (7-of-22).
The Big Green were 92.3% from the free throw line (12-of-13). It marked Dartmouth's second-best free throw percentage of the season with at least 10 makes, only trailing its 11-for-11 effort at Iona in December.
Penn finished at 39.1% (25-of-64) and 35.0% from behind the arc (7-of-20).
The Quakers held a 41-35 edge in rebounds.
Dartmouth had 13 assists on 20 made field goals.
Eldredge's 16 points were a career high against a Division I opponent, tying her career high of 16 set against Franklin Pierce this season.
Saturday marked Ozel's eighth double-figure scoring effort of the season.
