BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The Dartmouth baseball team opened the 2026 season, Saturday, facing the FDU Knights and Gardner-Webb Runnin' Bulldogs.
The Big Green won their first game of the day over the Knights, 7-6, before falling to the hosts, Gardner-Webb, 8-7 in the nightcap.
With the win over FDU, Dartmouth secured an Opening Day victory for the first time since 2019. It was also Interim Head Coach
Blake McFadden's first win of the season.
Game 1: Dartmouth 7, FDU 6
The Big Green and Knights met for only the fourth time in program history, Saturday, as Dartmouth earned the 7-6 victory to move to 4-0 all time against FDU.
First-year
Izzy Parsky got the start for the Big Green, fanning four batters through the first two innings.
The game remained scoreless until the third inning, when the Knights took a 1-0 lead thanks to a three-hit inning. The Big Green responded in their half of the fourth inning, pushing two runs across to take a 2-1 lead.
Milo Suarez led off the inning with a single before stealing second base.
A.J. DeMastrie then knocked a single, sending Suarez to third.
Stefan Di Corrado then stepped to the plate, doubling down the left field line to score both base runners and give the Big Green the lead.
Parsky came back out for the fourth inning, recording two outs and surrendering three runs as FDU took a 4-2 lead. With two runners on,
Trey Sejnoha entered the game for his first relief appearance of the season.
The Knights added to their lead in the fifth inning thanks to a leadoff walk and a double, making it a 5-2 game. The score held until the eighth inning, when the Big Green plated four runs to take a one-run lead over FDU.
Taer Rodriguez and Suarez both found their way on base by way of the free pass; Rodriguez was hit by the pitch before Suarez took the walk. Di Corrado stepped up to the plate, recording his second two-run double of the day, pulling the Big Green within one.
Now with two outs and one runner on, first-year
Henry Murray collected his first RBI of his collegiate career, knocking in pinch runner
Mason Smith from second, tying the game. Before the inning would end,
Camden Rush knocked in another run, giving Dartmouth its first lead of the game.
The Big Green added an insurance run in the top of the ninth. Rodriguez was hit by another pitch before Suarez took his spot on the base path by way of fielder's choice. DeMastrie recorded his third hit of the day to score Suarez and make it a 7-5 game.
Mac Burke, who pitched the final out of the eighth inning, came back to pitch the ninth. The Knights put up a fight, putting plenty of traffic on the base paths and successfully pushing one run across, but the Big Green held on for the 7-6 win, its first Opening Day victory since 2019. Blake McFadden's first win at the helm of the program.
On the mound, Parsky finished the day with four runs on seven hits in 3.2 innings, also fanning four. Sejnoha allowed one run on two hits with six strikeouts in his four innings of work to earn the win. Burke collected the save, giving up one run on two hits in the final 1.1 innings.
Game 2: Gardner-Webb 8, Dartmouth 7
The Big Green capped Opening Day against Gardner-Webb, looking to continue momentum built from the win over FDU.
The Runnin' Bulldogs opened a five run lead and despite a push late, the Big Green fell to Gardner-Webb, 8-7.
The game between the Big Green and Runnin' Bulldogs was scoreless through two full innings, but a leadoff hit helped give Dartmouth the lead in the third.
Axel Riess led the inning with an infield single, eventually stealing second base. Riess then advanced to third on a ground out before
Alejandro Puig singled to score Riess and give Dartmouth a 1-0 lead.
Gardner-Webb responded in its half of the third inning. The Big Green committed an error with one out before the run eventually scored on a double to tie the game at one.
It did not take long for the Big Green to retake the lead. Nico Bañez reached base to start the inning after being hit by the pitch. He stole second base to put himself in scoring position before coming around to score on an
A.J. DeMastrie double.
Stefan Di Corrado collected his fifth RBI of the day, driving in DeMastrie on a sacrifice fly to make it a 3-1 game.
Once again, Gardner-Webb came charging back. Another Dartmouth error put the leadoff man on before a two-run home run tied the game.
The Runnin' Bulldogs were able to keep Dartmouth off the scoreboard in the fifth, giving them an opportunity to take their first lead of the game. Gardner-Webb did just that, leading off the inning with a walk, single, and two-run double, taking a 5-3 lead over the Big Green.
Gardner-Webb added three insurance runs in the seventh, making it an 8-3 game on a walk, three hits, and a passed ball.
Dartmouth got one run back in the eighth when
Camden Rush led the inning off with a walk before coming around to score on a Nico Bañez double, making it an 8-4 game.
The Big Gren picked up right where they left off in the eighth, loading the bases on three straight batters to start the inning. DeMastrie singled, Di Corrado and
Henry Murray walked. Riess then collected his third hit of the day, scoring one run to make the score 8-5.
First-year
Gus Begert made his collegiate debut next, coming off the bench as a pinch hitter and drawing a walk, scoring yet another run.
Gardner-Webb was able to get the next two batters out before Bañez recorded an infield single to pull the Big Green within one. The Runnin' Bulldogs held on for the final out, defeating the Big Green, 8-7.
Nate Isler got the start and took the loss for the Big Green, giving up five runs, three earned, on six hits in four innings of work. He also walked one and fanned five.
Nate Matoush pitched the final four innings in relief, allowing three runs, two earned, on three hits. Matoush dealt three walks and collected three strikeouts.

The Big Green will be back in action Sunday, February 22, wrapping their season opening trip to North Carolina. Dartmouth will face FDU at 11 a.m. before the rematch against Gardner-Webb at 3 p.m.
