PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Dartmouth baseball opened Ivy League play, Saturday, playing a doubleheader on the road against the Penn Quakers. Dartmouth, who won two of the three contests against the Quakers last season, were looking to continue to build momentum against Penn, and snap a four-game losing skid.

The Big Green opened the scoring in each contest, but the Quakers battled back to win both games, 8-3 and 4-1 over Dartmouth.

With the losses, Dartmouth falls to 3-10 overall on the season and 0-2 in Ivy League play.

Game 1: Penn 8, Dartmouth 3
The Big Green opened game one with a leadoff single off the bat of
Alejandro Puig but were unable to push a run across early. The Quakers also had a chance to take the lead early, putting runners on second and third with two outs, but
Nate Isler was up to the task on the mound, getting the final out to keep the game scoreless.

In the second,
A.J. DeMastrie led off the inning with a walk, putting the first batter on in back-to-back innings. With one out,
Stefan Di Corrado also drew a walk before
Taer Rodriguez reached on an infield single to load the bases.
Camden Rush,
Sam Andersen and
Nico Bañez all then singled, each scoring a run, giving the Big Green a 3-0 lead early in the contest.

It did not take long for the Quakers to respond, as they tied the game on four hits and a walk in their half of the inning.

In the bottom of the fifth, Penn took a one run lead after its leadoff hitter tripled, making it a 4-3 game.

After the Big Green's three-run second inning, the Quakers starting pitcher settled in, keeping Dartmouth of the bases. In the eighth, Dartmouth finally reached when Puig recorded his second hit of the day. He advanced to second on a wild pitch, forcing a pitching change before eventually advancing to third on a Bañez ground out. Despite being only 90-feet from tying the game, Puig was unable to come home, keeping it a 4-3 game in favor of Penn.

In the bottom of the eighth, the Quakers exploded, adding four insurance runs, capitalizing on free passes. Penn recorded only one hit in the inning, but drew four walks, a hit by pitch, and capitalized on a Big Green error, making it an 8-3 game headed into the ninth.

With one out,
Henry Murray drew a walk and later stole second base, but the Quakers held on to defeat the Big Green in game one of the doubleheader, 8-3.

Nate Isler got the start for the Big Green, allowing four runs on eight hits in six innings of work. He dealt three walks and fanned six.

Trey Sejnoha pitched the final two innings in relief, allowing four runs, two earned on one hit and four walks. He also collected three strikeouts.

Game 2: Penn 4, Dartmouth 1
The Big Green scored early in the second game of the doubleheader, opening a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Puig drew a walk to start the inning before making his way to third on a Bañez double.
Milo Suarez was then hit by the pitch to load the bases with no outs.

Despite grounding into a double play, Dartmouth was able to plate one run to take an early lead over the Quakers.

Penn responded in its half of the second inning. Back-to-back singles put two runners on before a double drove the tying run home.

Their next time at the plate, the Quakers took the lead. Penn scored two runs on two hits, a triple and a single, a walk, and a Dartmouth error, making it a 3-1 game.

Both teams put a few runners on through the middle innings, but no one was able to come home as it remained a two-run Quakers lead into the bottom of the seventh. Penn added another run, extending its lead to three in the seventh, thanks to a solo homerun, sealing the win over Dartmouth.

Nathan Matoush earned the start for the Big Green, giving up three runs, two earned on six hits in three innings of work. He walked two and added one strikeout.

Nate Kugler was impressive out of the bullpen, allowing only one run on four hits through five innings. Kugler walked one and added one strikeout.
