LOWELL, Mass. – After an exciting home opening weekend, Dartmouth baseball returned to action Tuesday, traveling for a midweek nonconference game against the UMass Lowell Riverhawks.

The Big Green erased an early deficit but were unable to come away with the win, as the Riverhawks defeated Dartmouth 4-3.

With the loss, the Big Green fall to 5-13 on the season.

Dartmouth got out to a slow start, as UMass Lowell was able to capitalize in the first inning, taking a 2-0 lead over the Big Green. The Riverhawks scored two on two errors, a walk and a wild pitch.

The Big Green thought they got on the board to start the second inning.
Milo Suarez led off the inning with a walk before advancing to second base on a ground out.
Austin Moran then singled to left field sending Suarez to third. He tried to come home, but the Riverhawks were ready, recording the final out of the inning.

In the third, the Riverhawks extended their lead to three, hitting a solo home run to left field.

The Big Green got on the board in the fifth, cutting UMass Lowell's lead to two. With one out,
Austin Moran reached after being hit by the pitch.
Jack Espiritu-Niswonger's single advanced him to second before
Alejandro Puig hit a single to center to load the bases.

Nico Bañez bounced into a fielder's choice and a Riverhawks error allowed Moran to score, making it a 3-1 game.

The Big Green pulled even in the seventh inning. Moran opened the inning with a bunt, but another Riverhawks' error put him on second with no outs. Puig drew walk before Bañez singled to right to bring Dartmouth within one.

Chris Miller, the Big Green's hero in game one of last weekend's series with Columbia, singled to tie the game, scoring Puig. The Big Green thought they took the lead, but the Riverhawks recorded the final out of the inning, tagging Bañez out at home plate.

The tie did not last long as the Riverhawks retook the lead in their half of the eighth. UMass Lowell put two runners on with one out and a single allowed one run to score, making it a 4-3 game.

The Big Green could not generate any offense in the ninth, as the Riverhawks snapped a two-game losing skid against the Big Green claiming the 4-3 victory.

Andrew Lombana got the start on the mound for the Big Green, his second of the season. He gave up three runs, one earned, on two hits in 2.2 innings of work. Lombana dealt two walks and fanned three.

Trey Sejnoha pitched the next 1.1 innings of relief, allowing only two baserunners, courtesy of one hit and one walk. He also recorded two strikeouts.

Aidan Plummer impressed over the next three innings, giving up only one hit and two walks. He added one strikeout.

Nathan Matoush wrapped the game for the Big Green, allowing one run on two hits and one walk in his frame.

The Big Green will be back in action this weekend, continuing Ivy League play on the road at Cornell. Dartmouth sits at 2-4 in Ivy League play and aims to sweep the Big Red for the second straight season. The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday, April 4 beginning at 11:30 a.m. before wrapping the series on Sunday, April 5 at 12 p.m. All three games can be watched on ESPN+.
