ITHACA, N.Y. – Dartmouth baseball kicked off another Ivy League weekend, Friday, taking on the Cornell Big Red for the first of three games in Ithaca.

Cornell opened the scoring in the first inning and never relinquished its lead, defeating the Big Green, 8-1.

With the loss, the Big Green fall to 5-14 overall and 2-5 in Ivy League play.

The Big Red opened the scoring in the first inning, taking a 1-0 lead. A two-out double and single put runners on the corners. The runner on first tried to steal second but got caught in a run down, allowing the run to score despite the Big Green recording the third out of the inning.

Dartmouth threatened to tie the game in the second when they also put runners on the corners.
Henry Murray singled to first before stealing both second and third base.
Chris Miller then drew a walk, but Cornell got out of trouble.

Cornell grew its lead in their half of the second, plating four runs on three hits, including a three-run home run, two walks, and a hit by pitch, making it a 5-0 game.

The Big Red continued to pile on, extending their lead to six in the bottom of the third, capitalizing on two base hits and a stolen base.

Dartmouth got on the board in the fifth. Miller took his second walk of the day before advancing to second thanks to an
Austin Moran single.
Taer Rodriguez put down a successful sac bunt to move both runners, before
Alejandro Puig sent Miller home on a sacrifice fly.

Cornell immediately responded to make it a seven-run game in the fifth. The Big Red knocked three hits, including a two-run double, all with two outs to make it an 8-1 game.

The Big Green put baserunners on in the sixth, seventh, and ninth, including Murray's third hit of the day to lead off the top of the ninth, but Dartmouth was unable to close on the lead, ultimately falling to Cornell in the first game of the weekend series, 8-1.

Marco Dumsky made his fourth start of the year, allowing six runs on seven hits in 2.1 innings. He dealt two walks and added two strikeouts.

Trey Sejnoha impressed out of the bullpen, pitching the final 5.2 innings in relief. The junior allowed two runs on seven hits and fanned four.

The Big Green will be back in action against the Big Red on Saturday, April 4, wrapping the series with a doubleheader. Game one will begin at 11:30 with game two to follow. Both of Saturday's games will be streamed on ESPN+ or you can follow the live stats on DartmouthSports.com.
