HANOVER, N.H. – Dartmouth baseball wrapped the regular season series with the Brown Bears on Sunday, falling in the contest, 7-5.
With the loss, the Big Green drop to 7-18 on the season and 4-8 in Ivy League play.
The Bears threatened to open the score in the second, loading the bases on a hit by pitch, error, and walk with only one out in the inning.
Marco Dumsky on the mound and the rest of the Big Green were able to get out of the early jam, keeping the game scoreless.
Dartmouth used the momentum in its favor, opening a two-run lead.
Stefan Di Corrado singled and stole second, before
Chris Miller drew a walk to put two on with no outs.
Taer Rodriguez advanced both runners thanks to a sacrifice bunt, before
Sam Andersen ripped a single up the middle to drive in both runners.
Despite the deficit, Brown strung together some hits and capitalized on another Dartmouth error to take the lead over the Big Green. The Bears tallied five hits and took a hit by pitch to plate five runs and make it a 5-2 game.
The Big Green got one back in their half of the inning.
Milo Suarez led off the inning with a single, advancing to second on a
Tyler Sirchia ground out. Miller then doubled down the right field line as Dartmouth made it a 5-3 game.
Brown added to its lead in the fifth, as a leadoff hit by pitch and a home run extended the Bears' lead to four.
Dartmouth added a home run of its own in the sixth, this time off the bat of
Taer Rodriguez, his first of the season and the Big Green's fourth of the weekend as it became a 7-4 game.
The Big Green continued to pressure in the eighth, as Miller drove in another run. Di Corrado drew a walk to lead off the inning, coming round to score on a Miller RBI double to left center field. Miller then stole third with no outs in the inning, but the Bears got out of trouble to hold onto their two-run lead.
Brown recorded two hits in the top of the ninth but were unable to capture any additional insurance runs. In Dartmouth's final shot, Nico Bañez led off the inning with a walk, but a double play eliminated the runner and secured Brown the victory.
Marco Dumsky started on the mound for Dartmouth, giving up five runs, three earned on five hits in 2.1 innings of work.
Kyle Klaric-Schell pitched the next 2.1 innings, giving up two runs on three hits with a walk and strikeout.
Nathan Matoush pitched the most innings for Dartmouth out of the bullpen, tossing a scoreless 3.1 innings.
Mac Burke closed the game, allowing two hits but three strikeouts in his scoreless final frame.
Dartmouth will play one more game at home on Wednesday, welcoming Siena for a midweek nonconference matchup, before returning to Ivy League play next weekend at Harvard.
