Q & A with Muhammed
Why did you choose Dartmouth?
Dartmouth seemed like a great fit for me. I felt like it would be an ideal place for me to allow my talents to bloom. I also remember falling in love with the environment and its people when I came up to visit as a football recruit.
How long have you been competing in track and what got you interested?
I have been running track since high school, but I have been recognized as the fast kid since way back in my play pen years. In my teenage years I lived in Senegal West Africa where I would recreationally race anyone who was interested. Winning all those races really built my confidence in running against other fast kids. And for all the other sports that I played speed was always my biggest asset, and participating in track has allowed me to further develop my assets.
Tell me something interesting about you that might come as a surprise to your teammates.
My teammates know everything about me so this is a hard question! I suppose they wouldn't know that I am really into poetry though. Especially slam poetry. When I am away from Dartmouth I go to as many shows as I can find. I also am a really big lover of the Arts. I frequent museums and love to read about architects and other artists.
What are your future plans, if any?
I would love to continue running and to further exploit my assets in order to compete at higher levels, however I am also planning on continuing with my studies with a possibility of going ahead towards a Phd in Engineering. I also like to consider myself a big time humanitarian so through all my other plans I am hoping to continue to support the causes that I am passionate about and also travel!
What extra curricular activities are you involved in on campus?
I participate in the Dartmouth Society of Black Engineers, the after school science program, NAACP, and the Dartmouth Architecture Club to name a few.
