Men's Lightweight Rowing
at Cornell
Q&A with Joel Malkin
Why Dartmouth?
I chose Dartmouth because of the rural campus, the small size, the relaxed atmosphere and the great people.
How long have you been rowing and what got you interested in rowing?
I transfered high schools after my freshmen year and was looking for something to do. I started with a rowing team the fall of my sophomore year and have loved it ever since.
Have you won any academic or rowing awards recently?
I was made an Endowed Scholar by Dartmouth College this winter.
Tell me something interesting about you that might come as a surprise to your teammates.
I've lived in Arizona in the Sonoran Desert for my whole life. Largely because of that, I saw it snow for the first time two years ago and right away assumed there was a forest fire somewhere and that the snow was falling ash. New Hampshire has been a pretty big change for me.
What other activities do you participate in on campus?
I am part of Christian Impact and Navigators Christian Fellowship. I am also with the Thetford Mentoring Program.
What are your future plans, if any.
I'm a double major in Classics and Linguistics, but I don't have any plans right now for where that will take me. I do plan on joining the Marines after
college for several years at least and see where that takes me.
