Q & A With Drew Wong

1) Why Dartmouth?

I wanted to go to the school that would provide me with the biggest adventure. Dartmouth offered a variety of completely new life
experiences that I would not have otherwise been able to do. I absolutely love my home and my childhood experience, but going off to
college is a universally life-changing so I decided that I wanted to try something different. I changed sports, activities, class subjects,
added friends, stories, and expanded my view of the world. It has been an incredible blessing--I could not have asked for more.

2) How long have you been rowing and what got you interested in rowing?

I have been rowing for sixteen months. I originally tried to continue running on the Dartmouth Men's Cross Country team, but after a few
weeks, I realized that I was not fast enough. I was looking for another physically demanding sport so the cross country coach
suggested that I should try rowing. I hopped in a boat later than the other walk-ons and, though I had a series of challenges throughout the year, I could not bring myself to leave. I still do not regret my decision to remain a part of such an awesome team.

3) Have you won any academic or rowing awards recently?

Recently, I have not received any academic or rowing awards.

4) Tell me something interesting about you that might come as a surprise toyour teammates.

I love flying. When I was 17 I flew a prop-plane and received a gift- certificate to go bungee jumping (once I find someone who will go with
me). In the next few years, I hope to go skydiving, hang-gliding, parasailing, base-jumping, and, hopefully sometime, wing-suiting.

5) What other activities do you participate in on campus?

At Dartmouth, I am the Vice President of Finances for Dartmouth Humanitarian Engineering Leadership Projects (HELP) and an active member in Christian Impact (CI), Dartmouth's chapter of Campus Crusade.

6) What are your future plans, if any.

First I intend to graduate from Dartmouth with a major in Environmental Engineering with an International Studies minor, then continue to finish a Bachelors of Engineering. Then I hope to continue with the Thayer Engineering Master of Science in Engineering program. After that, I hope to either travel abroad working with applied technologies or return to the west coast and work with a green technology company.
