HANOVER, N.H. – Dartmouth women’s rugby head coach Katie Dowty has announced that Matthew Cameron has been added to her staff as an assistant coach.

The announcement came Friday afternoon and on the eve of the 2015 season, the first as a Division I varsity program.

“I'm very excited to have Matt on board. He has a proven track record of building successful rugby programs and a wealth of knowledge that will be invaluable as we transition from a club sport to a varsity program,” Dowty said. “As a coach and mentor, I couldn't ask for someone more engaging and motivating. His passion for the game, positive energy and mindset, and relentless work ethic made him a great fit for us.”

Cameron brings a wealth of experience as both a player and a coach to the Big Green sidelines. A 2004 graduate of Bard College, Cameron served as an assistant with his alma mater for five years (2004-09), including working with the first women’s team in 2005 and establishing policies and processes for the program in the years to follow.

In February of 2010, Cameron was tabbed as the head coach of the Brandeis University women’s RFC, helping the program transition between three levels of competition over six seasons in that capacity. Most recently, Cameron was also named the head coach of the Old Gold RFC this past February.

A 14-year veteran who recently wrapped up his competitive playing career with Boston RFC, Cameron is also a referee with a World Rugby Level 1 certification and served as a member of the board of directors for the New England Wide Collegiate Rugby Conference from 2012 until his appointment at Dartmouth.

The Big Green will begin their inaugural varsity campaign on Sept. 19 in Hamden, Connecticut, against Quinnipiac.
