Christian Leads Dartmouth Women's Lacrosse to Tenth Win

HANOVER, N.H. -- Senior Katieanne Christian (Agawam, Mass.) scored five goals, including the 100th of her collegiate career, pacing the Dartmouth women's lacrosse team to a 13-8 victory over No. 12 Syracuse on Tuesday.

The No. 7 Big Green improved to 10-0 with a win on blustery Scully-Fahey Field.

After allowing the Orange to score the game's first two goals, Dartmouth answered with five straight, including two by Christian. That propelled the Big Green to a 9-4 lead at half. So far this season, Dartmouth has always led at the break.

"I think it was a great win," said Christian, who is on pace to break into Dartmouth's all-time top 10 in scoring. "It's just so great to be a part of a team where everyone feels a part of it."

Christian's 100th career goal was her third of the afternoon and came on a free position shot with 13:32 left in the opening half. That gave Dartmouth a 6-4 lead, and was followed by goals by sophomore Whitney Douthett (Newtown, Pa.), Christian and freshman Kristen Barry (Duxbury, Mass.).

Syracuse, 8-3 overall, began the second half by netting four of the first five goals, getting the Orange within two at 10-8.

But Barry, Douthett and Christian each scored in a seven-minute stretch from 9:39 to 2:02, accounting for all of Dartmouth's goals.

"It wasn't our best outing of the year," said Dartmouth head coach Amy Patton, who is in her 13th season. "But there's always things we can learn. There were also things that we did better today than we did in the last game. You can takes the positives and learn from the areas that we were a little weak in."

Dartmouth had three-goal performances by Douthett and Barry. Also contributing one apiece were junior Kristen Zimmer (Alexandria, Va.) and sophomore Sarah Szefi (Pittsburgh, Pa.).

In the nets, Dartmouth's Devon Wills (Denver, Colo.) made six saves, including five in the second half. For Syracuse, Jen Kasel had 12 stops.

Dartmouth returns to Ivy League action on Saturday, traveling to No. 16 Penn for a 12 noon game.
