Douthett, Christian Push Dartmouth Women's Lacrosse to 11th Straight Win

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- Sophomore
Whitney Douthett (Newtown, Pa.) and senior
Katieanne Christian (Agawam, Mass.) each scored three goals as the Dartmouth women's lacrosse team downed Penn, 10-8, in an Ivy League matchup on Saturday.
The victory was the 11th in a row for the Big Green who also improved to 5-0 in Ivy League play. Dartmouth tied the program record for consecutive wins. The 1998 Big Green ripped off 11 straight from March 28 to April 30.
Against Penn, Dartmouth never trailed, building a 7-5 halftime lead. Christian scored two of her goals in the second half as the Big Green held a 10-6 advantage with 14:56 to play.
The gamewinning goal proved to be a free position shot by junior
Annie Leibovitz (Boulder, Colo.) with 19:48 left in the second half.
Dartmouth outshot Penn, 26-14, and also held a 14-6 lead in draw controls.
Douthett also had two assists for the Big Green. Leibovitz had a pair of goals on the afternoon, while senior
Sarah Sanborn (Owings Mills, Md.) and sophomore
Jen Pittman (New Canaan, Conn.) each scored once.
It was a quiet afternoon for junior goalkeeper
Devon Wills (Denver, Colo.) who was called on to make two saves, both in the first half. Liz Lorelli and Sarah Waxman combined for nine saves for Penn.
Dartmouth has a big week upcoming with a pair of home games. On Wednesday, April 20, the Big Green hosts Harvard at 6 p.m. and on Saturday, April 23, Princeton comes to Scully-Fahey Field for a 3:30 p.m. game that will be televised by CSTV.
