Providence, R.I. - Dartmouth freshman Melisa Krnjaic (Washington, D.C.) scored her first collegiate goal in the fifth minute and her team held the lead to take a 1-0 win over Brown in the season finale.
“Tonight's game was fiercely competitive and I was delighted to see us score early and hold on,” said Head Coach Angie Hind. “It's been a challenging season and disappointing by our standards but to finish with a win was important for our team and our seniors.”
Krnjaic tallied what would prove the game-winner at 4:49 when she pounced on a bouncing ball in the box and beat Brown keeper Steffi Yellin to the left side.
Brown outshot Dartmouth 15 to 10, but the Big Green was more accurate with seven shots on goal to the Bears' two.
Yellin finished with six saves including four in the second half to keep her team in the game while Dartmouth senior Amanda Webb (Danvers, Mass.) ended her career in fitting fashion with her 15th career shutout, making two saves. Webb ranks second on the Dartmouth career shutouts list.
Rookie Katie Davis (San Marina, Calif.) and sophomore Ali Hubbard (Marshfield, Mass.) patrolled the midfield with commanding force for the Big Green in the win.
In addition to Webb, classmates Monica Martin de Bustamante (Los Altos Hills, Calif.), Annie Stanley (Winnetka, Ill.) and Carolyn Wendell (San Francisco, Calif.) played their final collegiate game tonight.
The Big Green ends the year at 5-9-2, 3-3-1 Ivy while Brown finishes 6-10-1, 3-4 Ivy.
