HANOVER, N.H. - The Dartmouth women's soccer team is back together after a winter off-term for many players and the Big Green begins its preparation for the 2009 campaign with a series of games this spring. The team will play weekly from April 25 - May 16, providing a valuable opportunity to play together before most depart for individual summer training.
The Big Green kicks off the spring season on Saturday, April 25 at instate rival New Hampshire for a 12 p.m. start, its only road game of the spring. Dartmouth returns to Hanover on Saturday May 2 at 12:30 p.m. to host the Western Mass Pioneers of the W-League professional soccer. The team welcomes back former players for its annual alumnae weekend and a celebration of 30 Years of Dartmouth Women's Soccer on May 9. The game will feature a series of eight v. eight games amongst alumnae and current players. The Big Green closes out the spring on Saturday May 16 against Montreal University at 11:30 a.m.
The Dartmouth women return eight everyday starters and a handful of others with starting experience for head coach Angie Hind's fifth season at the helm. Leading scorers Myra Sack (Wynnewood, Pa.), first team All-Ivy, and Kelsey Quick (Bernardsville, N.J.), honorable mention All-Ivy, are back for their senior season along with do-everything midfielder Ali Hubbard (Marshfield, Mass.), a two-time All-Ivy selection. Defensively, Thea Sutton (San Rafael, Calif.) and Melisa Krnjaic (Washington, D.C.) bring back the most experience in an area that has lost the most to graduation. Dartmouth will need to replace graduating backs Emily Forline '09 and Whitney Odden '09, who played nearly every minute along with goalkeeper Laurel Peak '09. Their third classmate, Becky Poskin (Leawood, Kan.) will take a fifth fall in Hanover after missing most of her junior year with an injury.
The Big Green finished the 2008 season with a record of 8-6-2, with four losses coming by one goal. Dartmouth was undefeated in six overtime games, winning four.
