HANOVER, N.H. - Women's crew member
Kathryn Twyman (Edmonton, Alta.) has been named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District First Team by CoSIDA.
The teams are voted upon by members of CoSIDA, the College Sports Information Directors of America. Twyman earned a spot on one of two At-Large teams, which includes athletes from a variety of sports.
The senior rower has been a member of the Varsity Eight boat for the last three years. Since Twyman has been part of the varsity boat, Dartmouth has gone 25-13 and has made the NCAA Championships twice. In 2007, Twyman helped the Big Green finish second in the Petite Final. Dartmouth made the NCAA Championships again this year going 7-3 and finishing fifth in Grand Final of the EAWRC Sprints.
Twyman carries a 3.94 grade point average in biology, focusing in chemistry and physics. Being in the top five percent of students in the Class of 2009, she has been named a Choate Scholar. She has also been named a Canadian Rhodes Scholar with her work in the classroom and will attend Oxford from 2009-11 to earn her Ph.D in physical chemistry. Along with the most prestigious academic award, Twyman was named Academic All-Ivy in 2007 and again in 2008 when she was honored as a Presidential Scholar.
Before she heads for England, Twyman has plenty of rowing left at this level. Besides the NCAA Championships May 29, she has also been selected to the Canadian Women's U23 Selection Camp for the 2009 World Championships.
Now as a first team member, Twyman will be eligible to become an Academic All-American later this month as she will move on to the national ballot.
