HANOVER, N.H. — Four members of the #12 Dartmouth women's lacrosse team have been named to IWLCA All-Region teams for their efforts in an impressive 2010 season.
Two juniors, defender
Shannie MacKenzie (Riverside, Conn.) and attack
Greta Meyer (Denver, Colo.) were named to the North Region first team, while senior goalie
Julie Wadland (Andover, Mass.) was a repeat selection to the second team, joined by sophomore midfielder
Sarah Plumb (Wellesley, Mass.). Both MacKenzie and Meyer are now eligible for IWLCA All-America honors, which will be announced on Monday.
The four players were honored after helping Dartmouth to an 11-5 record, second place finish in the Ivy League and national ranking as high as seventh this spring. All four of the honorees were among the group of just five players to start all 16 games.
MacKenzie has been a starter and a force since her freshman year — never missing a game and starting all but one — but just began receiving recognition this spring. Also named first team All-Ivy, this marks MacKenzie's first appearance on an All-North region squad. The junior paced the defense to the nation's fifth-ranked scoring defense (7.94 goals per game) while playing against one of the nation's most challenging schedules. She ranked second on the team in both ground balls with 30 and caused turnovers with 24.
A Tewaaraton Award nominee and unanimous first team All-Ivy honoree, Meyer had the best season of her career, taking her game to the next level while moving to a new position as an attacker. She returned to All-North status after earning a spot on the second team as a freshman. Meyer led the Big Green in scoring this season with 58 points on 35 goals and 23 assists, also tallying 23 ground balls. She had an impressive 57.4 shooting percentage and put 77 percent of her shots on goal. Meyer was also named an
All-American by WomensLax.com this week.
Another Tewaaraton nominee, Wadland was named to the second team All-North after earning her second straight All-Ivy first team honor. A co-captain, Wadland was the absolute backbone of not only the defense, but the entire Dartmouth team and is widely recognized as one of the nation's elite goalies. Throughout the season, Wadland has ranked in the top-five in the NCAA in goals against average and currently stands sixth nationally at 8.00. She also sported a .457 save percentage, making six or more saves on 12 occasions and played all but 29 minutes in goal all season. Wadland led the Big Green in ground balls with 37, showing her ability to control the game outside the cage.
Plumb had an impressive sophomore year and made her presence known all over the field, ranking in the top three on the team in all but one statistical category (goals) to earn All-Region and All-Ivy second team accolades. A true do-it-all midfielder, Plumb ranked third on the team in scoring with 37 points on 23 goals and 14 assists. She led the team with 27 caused turnovers and ranked second in both draw controls, 28, and ground balls, 28.
#12 Dartmouth had an impressive spring, including three wins over ranked opponents (at Notre Dame, at Syracuse, Boston University), all of which made the NCAA Tournament. The Big Green just narrowly missed out on an at-large selection to the field. Dartmouth brings back 10 starters from this year's team to the field in 2011.
