Bragging Rights on the Line
• For the 42nd straight year, Dartmouth will square off against New Hampshire, the only other Division I school in the state.
• The Big Green are fresh off a trip to the 49th state where they played in the Great Alaska Shootout, placing sixth in the eight-team field.
• In the first round, Dartmouth came up two points short against San Francisco, then bounced back to beat host Alaska Anchorage by 12 before falling to Central Michigan with fourth place on the line.
• Senior David Rufful earned a spot on the all-tournament team as he led the team in scoring each of the three games, averaging 17.7 points, while connecting on 66.7 percent (10-of-15) from downtown, the eighth-best percentage in the tournament's history.
• Freshman forward Jvonte Brooks posted his first career double-double in the win over Alaska Anchorage with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
• Also scoring in double figures in the win over UAA was senior Jabari Trotter with 12 points. The previous game, he dished out a career-high seven assists.
• Another rookie, John Golden, rang up a season-best 13 points in the loss to CMU, drilling 3-of-4 beyond the arc.
Series vs. New Hampshire
• First played in 1909 when UNH was still known as New Hampshire State, Dartmouth has always had the upper hand in the series. But with a slim 31-30 advantage having lost the last three meetings, the Wildcats could deadlock the series for the first time with a win over the Big Green.
• Last year UNH rallied from 17 down in the second half to knock off Dartmouth with 1.5 seconds left on a putback for a 55-53 win.
• The last Dartmouth win against UNH came in this building in the 2007-08 season, a 65-60 triumph in overtime.
• The Wildcats have won five of the past six games.
• In Durham, New Hampshire has the edge, winning 15 of the 26 meetings on its campus.
Scouting the Wildcats
• New Hampshire opened the 2011-12 season with a home win by 21 points over Suffolk, but have since lost twice, a narrow 67-64 defeat at Boston College and 66-60 to Loyola (Md.).
• Tied at 49 against the Greyhounds with 12 minutes to play, UNH was outscored 17-11 down the stretch at home.
• While shooting a respectable 45.5 percent from the floor, The Wildcats are barely better at the free throw line at 48.4 percent, the only team in the country hitting less than half of its foul shots.
• Three Wildcats are averaging at least 10 points a game, led by junior guard Chandler Rhoads at 17.3 while shooting 47.2 percent (17-of-36).
• Rhoads is joined by senior guard Alvin Abreu (15.7 ppg) and sophomore guard Jordon Bronner (10.3 ppg).
• Center Brian Benson is a force on the blocks, nearly averaging a double-double at 9.7 points and 12.3 rebounds.
• Only two Wildcats get significant minutes off the bench in forward Ferg Myrick and center Chris Matagrano.
• UNH is coached by Bill Herrion, who in six-plus seasons has guided the Wildcats to a 71-110 record. He spent eight years as the head coach at Drexel as well, piling up a 167-71 mark from 1991-99 with three NCAA Tournament berths.
Golden Touch
Freshman John Golden has been struggling to find his shooting range since the season began, but found the touch in the final game in Alaska against Central Michigan. The rookie knocked down 3-of-4 from behind the arc on his way to scoring a season-high 13 points. He also led Dartmouth in rebounding with a six-spot.
Low Half
Dartmouth scored just 17 points in the first half of its 65-48 loss to Central Michigan in Alaska on Nov. 26, its lowest total for any half since tallying 15 at Iowa State on Dec. 19, 2010. The last time the Big Green that poorly in the first half? Feb. 19, 2010 with 17 points against Columbia, in a game Dartmouth actually won, 48-44.
Still Looking for a Streak
Twice in Alaska Dartmouth had an opportunity to post its first winning streak since the 2008-09 season, but losses to San Francisco and Central Michigan derailed those chances. The Big Green won back-to-back games at Penn and Princeton on Feb. 20-21, 2009 — the only time they have defeated both schools on the road in one weekend — but have yet to string together two wins since.
