GOLD RIVER, Calif. - All three of Dartmouth's boats raced in the third level finals at the NCAA Championships on Lake Natoma, with the second varsity eight winning its tilt.
The Dartmouth second varsity eight finished 14th overall and first in the third level final, winning a close race in a time of 6:34.45 ahead of Clemson (6:34.91) and Harvard (6:41.91). Stanford won the grand final in a time of 6:26.76. Dartmouth's time was faster than the fifth and sixth place finishers in that race (Virginia, USC).
The varsity eight also raced in a third level final, taking fourth in its race and 16th overall with a time of 6:40.63. Harvard won that race in 6:34.45 while Ivy foe Princeton won the varsity eight grand final for that title.
Dartmouth's varsity four took fourth in its third level final in a time of 7:40.83. Michigan State won the race in 7:28.50 while Cal took the grand final title in 7:09.60.
It was Ivy foe Brown who came away on top, as the Bears rode second-place finishes in the varsity eight and second varsity eight grand finals to the NCAA Championship crown. The standings were knotted at the top, however, as Brown and Stanford were both tied with 85 points, with Brown taking the national title with the tiebreaker being the team's finish in the varsity eight. Amazingly, Brown (6:28.62) had finished second in that race just 0.05 seconds ahead of Stanford (6:28.67) in third. Cal was third with 83 points. Dartmouth finished 16th.
