HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth women's soccer team played to a scoreless draw with Yale on Saturday night at Burnham Field. The tie is Dartmouth's third consecutive Ivy League draw of the season.
“The team worked really hard tonight and I was very proud of some of our moments of possession and pressure,” said head coach Ron Rainey. “We are looking forward to recovering the next couple days and taking on Boston University in a game against a team that is in the NCAA Tournament quite a bit.”
Dartmouth (3-3-4, 0-0-3 Ivy) finished the game with a 16-7 edge in shots and an 8-6 advantage in corner kicks. Yale's Elise Wilcox made 10 saves, while senior Tatiana Saunders stopped two of Yale's attacks.
Senior Tasha Wilkins and Junior Corey Delaney led the Big Green with four shots each. Wilkins had an opportunity to score in the second overtime on a shot that sailed low to the ground. Yale's Melissa Gavin had a header go wide in the final 45 seconds after a Dartmouth foul.
Both sides had a shot on target in the first overtime, as Wilkins and Yale's Georgiana Wagermann each came close, but the keepers held their ground.
In regulation the Big Green peppered Wilcox's with eight shots on goal. Freshman Lindsay Knutson had a breakaway chance stopped after Wilcox came out to test the speedy forward. Junior Corey Delaney has the Big Green others chance in the second minute of play, but her shot was blocked midair by a Yale defender.
Dartmouth will travel to Boston U. on Tuesday evening before retuning to host Penn on Saturday.
