BOSTON, Mass. – Jamie Turchi headed in a free kick to give Boston University a 1-0 win over the Dartmouth women's soccer team on Tuesday evening at Nickerson Field.
“We played with passion and heart today,” said head coach Ron Rainey. "As a group I am proud of our effort level and looking forward to working hard in our homecoming game against Penn.”
Boston's Alivya Wimmer served the free kick to the head of Turchi for the game's only tally in the 57th minute. Turchi was credited with the lone shot in the first stanza.
After surrendering the goal, Dartmouth had a chance to score after a corner kick from junior Corey Delaney was received by freshman Lauren Lackey, but Boston keeper Bridget Conway stopped her shot. In the 80th minute sophomore Piper Curtis had a chance at goal, but was denied by the BU keeper.
Dartmouth used a last-ditch effort in the final two minutes of play, but junior Jill Dayneka had her shot stopped, which then prompted for back-to-back corners by the Big Green. On the final corner kick, Freshman Brittany Champagne had her header go wide of the cage with 15 seconds left.
Boston outshot Dartmouth, 9-6, but the Big Green had a favorable advantage in corner kicks, 7-1. Senior Tatiana Saunders made three saves in the defeat and Conway made three in the second half.
Dartmouth (3-4-4, 0-0-3 Ivy) hosts Penn on Saturday at 4:30 p.m.
