SATURDAY'S GAME
The Dartmouth women's rugby team will play host to Princeton on Saturday morning at Brophy Field with the initial whistle set for 10 a.m. to kick off Homecoming Weekend.
LAST TIME OUT
The Big Green won a defensive battle against Brown, 8-5, last weekend at home. Senior Tatjana Toeldte accounted for all eight Dartmouth points in the match with a penalty kick and a try. Brown was strong with its back against the tryline, holding the home team to just the one try all afternoon and playing very well defensively to prevent what could have been a lopsided contest given Dartmouth's dominance in possession.
SCOUTING PRINCETON
The Tigers have played just one game so far this fall, dropping a 17-10 decision last weekend in Cambridge to the Harvard Crimson. Seniors Abby Badura and Andrea Malleo have been tabbed as captains of the team, which is not yet a varsity program and operates as a club. Princeton will play Penn, Brown and Columbia in the next three weeks before hosting the 2015 Ivy Rugby Championship the weekend of Nov. 7-8.
WINNING WITH LESS
After scoring 77 points in the season opener against Penn, Dartmouth has just 13 points in the last two outings. However, despite averaging just over six points a game in that time, have managed to go 1-1 with the season's lone loss at Quinnipiac back on Sept. 19. Thanks to that shellacking of the Quakers, the Green are still averaging 30 points per game this season.
TRENDING UP!
In the latest poll released by Goff Rugby Report on Tuesday morning, the Dartmouth women climbed all the way up to No. 11 following the win against Brown. The team had been unranked previously, but made the jump into the top-20 and almost into the top half of the poll with the win. Indiana was the only previously unranked team to move into the rankings, jumping to No. 15.
WHAT THE COACH SAYS
“Princeton may still be a club side, but they are a top-tier competitor in the Ivy League and we cannot afford to let our guard down at any point in the match. They are the reigning Ivy 7s Champs and a team on the rise. We plan on throwing all we have at them and are determined to improve on every aspect of our execution from last week's strong showing against Brown. Expect to see a few new, exciting faces from our very talented freshman class, who are ready to step up and contribute on game day!” – Head coach Katie Dowty.
WHAT'S NEXT?
Dartmouth is back at Brophy Field to close out a three-game homestand next Saturday afternoon against Harvard at 1 p.m.
