NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The seventh-ranked Dartmouth men's squash team fell to Ivy League foe No. 2 Yale, 8-1 in the opening round of the College Squash Association Team Championship in New Haven, Connecticut on Friday.
The loss drops the Big Green to 9-5, while the Bulldogs improve to 13-2.
Freshman Sam Epley and senior Kyle Martino both returned from lower body injuries, but could record a victory as they both lost in three games. Meanwhile sophomore Brian Giegerich established a lead in the first game of his match, but lost 11-9. He came back strong in the second with a victory, but could not close out the match falling in four games.
In the second round, freshman Carson Spahr and juniors Nick Harrington and Glen Brickman all fell to their opponents, 3-0.
Senior James Fisch and freshman Matthew Giegerich both fell in straight games. The best performance by Dartmouth came from sophomore Alvin Heumann. He won the first game before falling in the second. After taking the third, Heumann fell in a close fourth game. Heumann eventually shut the door on his opponent with a decisive, 11-6 win in the fifth game for the Big Green's lone victory of the match.
