Brown Bears (1-0, 0-0 Ivy)
Saturday, September 17, 2016 – 11 a.m.
Providence, R.I. – Marvel Field
SATURDAY'S GAME
The Dartmouth rugby team is back in action on Saturday, heading to Providence to take on Brown in the first Ivy game for both squads.
LAST TIME OUT
The Big Green played in its first road tilt of 2016 last Friday in West Point, New York, falling to Army, 63-12. It was a 12-12 game in the first half before the Black Knights took control and came away with the big win.
FIRSTS FOR THE FRESHMEN
Both Eva Klein and Frankie Sands notched the first points of their respective careers in the loss to the Cadets as both scored first-half tries. In total, dating back to the AIC game, the last four tries scored by the Big Green have come from freshmen.
AGAINST THE BEARS
- Brown will be looking for a bit of retribution Saturday morning as Dartmouth won the 2015 Ivy Rugby title at the expense of their rivals from Providence. The Bears had a 12-0 lead at halftime, but a strong second-half defensive effort and timely scoring allowed the Green to break a 12-12 tie in the 82nd minute thanks to an Audrey Perez try.
- The Bears also suffered an 8-5 loss in Hanover earlier in the season in the lowest-combined scoring contest of the year for Dartmouth.
LEADERBOARD
Freshman Becca Jane Rosko still leads the team in total scoring with 10 points thanks to her two tries against AIC in the opener. Sophomore Kat Ramage is second with six points via three successful conversions. Klein, Sands, Danielle Ramsey and Ashley Zepeda all have five points as each has recorded one try.
DOWTY'S KEYS TO THE MATCH
Possession - We're focused on eliminating unforced errors, retaining possession of the ball at the breakdown and having the patience to breakdown the opposition's defense through multiple phases.
Competition - We're coming off an intentionally challenging preseason schedule that allowed us to build confidence in our physicality and start the Ivy season feeling battle-hardened.
Standards - We fully expect Brown to bring the same intensity they did last year, but we're measuring our performances this year against ourselves, and raising the standard of play for ourselves and the league.
- Head Coach Katie Dowty
