DARTMOUTH (4-4)
vs. QUINNIPIAC (2-4)
Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2018 | 7 PM | ESPN+
Leede Arena (2,100) | Hanover, N.H.
• After finishing its trip to Ireland with a 91-77 victory over Albany, Dartmouth returns to the U.S. to play host to Quinnipiac on Wednesday evening to kick off a four-game home stand.
• The Big Green drilled 17 3-pointers in their win over the Great Danes, their second-most this season and second-most ever against a Division I team. The most? That would be 18 against … Albany back in 2001.
• Dartmouth has been hitting shots from behind the arc at an unprecedented rate with 107 in the first eight games. Last year, the Green had 200 for the entire 27-game schedule, and this year the team is on pace to top 400 (program record is 263 set in 2001-02).
• Junior
Brendan Barry was responsible for seven of those long balls against Albany, giving him 29 on the season in just 50 attempts. His 58 percent accuracy ranks sixth in the nation.
• Barry's classmate,
James Foye, was even more efficient from the perimeter, canning 5-of-6 triples as he posted a career-high 20 points while raising his season 3-point percentage to 54.1. That figure places him 12th in the country.
• Lest we forget, Dartmouth had a third 20-point scorer in sophomore
Chris Knight, which was also a personal best. He finished the tournament averaging 18.0 points and 7.5 rebounds to earn a spot on the Samson Division All-Belfast Classic Team.
• Five players are averaging in double figures thus far — Knight (14.6 ppg), Barry (13.1), sophomore
Adrease Jackson (11.9), Foye (10.9) and junior
Ian Sistare (10.3).
• Knight and Jackson are also tied for the team lead in rebounding at 7.0 boards a night.
Series vs. Quinnipiac
• This is the 15th meeting between these two with the Bobcats winning 10 of the first 14 contests.
• The most recent game came in the 2017-18 season opener in which Quinnipiac edged the Green, 78-77.
•
Chris Knight tied the game at 77 with 17 seconds left, but Rich Kelly hit the second of two free throws with four ticks left to lift the Bobcats to the win.
• The last Dartmouth win in the series was a 56-53 triumph in Hanover on Dec. 18, 2006.
• The Big Green are 3-3 in Hanover versus Quinnipiac, but have lost the last two games here (2008, '10).
Scouting the Bobcats
• Quinnipiac lost its first two, won two, then lost two, so Dartmouth is hoping to end that pattern.
• On the road, the Bobcats are 1-3 with their only win coming at New Hampshire on Nov. 20, 69-63.
• Quinnpiac has struggled shooting the ball at 35.2 percent on field goals (third from last nationally) and 28.9 behind the arc.
• Only nine players have seen the court in the six games, led by Cameron Young with 16.7 ppg, the lone Bobcat averaging in double figures.
• Young scored nearly half of Quinnipiac's points in a 71-61 loss to Stony Brook on Saturday, posting 29 points thanks to hitting 15-of-18 free throws.
• Young also leads the team with 12 assists on a team that ranks in the bottom five nationally in assists per game (9.3).
• Kevin Marfo is the leading rebounder at 8.7 per game, though the Bobcats have been beaten on the glass by nearly four per game.
• Baker Dunleavy (Villanova '06) is in his second season as the Bobcats head coach sporting a 14-25 record. He spent seven years as an assistant at his alma mater, helping the Wildcats win a national championship in 2016.
Win in Another Country
Dartmouth played its first-ever games outside of the United States when it participated in the Belfast Classic on Nov. 29-30, making its 91-77 victory over Albany in the consolation game of the Samson Bracket its first on foreign soil.
3 for 20
While 3-for-20 would not be a good shooting percentage, it was a terrific result for Dartmouth against Albany at the Belfast Classic on Nov. 30 as three players scored at least 20 points for the Big Green —
Brendan Barry (25),
James Foye (20) and
Chris Knight (20). Both Foye and Knight reached the 20-point plateau for the first time in their careers, while Barry's 25 points were one shy of his personal best set in the season opener this year. They are the first trio of Dartmouth teammates with 20 or more points in a game in at least 21 years.
Knight Makes All-Tournament
Sophomore
Chris Knight was selected to be a member of the Belfast Classic All-Tournament Team for the Samson Division after averaging 18.0 points and 7.5 rebounds for the two games in Northern Ireland, including a career-high 20 points in the 91-77 victory over Albany. The sophomore hit 60.9 percent (14-of-23) of his shots from the floor, including his only 3-point attempt, and 7-of-8 at the foul line.
Tree!
While golfers yell out "Fore!" when a drive goes errant on the course, Dartmouth shooters could have called out "Tree!" during the Albany win. Why? That is the common Irish pronunciation of the number "3," but in this case it would be for exceptionally accurate shots as the Big Green buried 17 3-pointers against the Great Danes. It was Dartmouth's second-most triples against a Division I team with the most coming against … Albany on Jan. 20, 2001. The Green have now hit 15 or more long balls three times this year after reaching the total just four times in previous seasons.
Lighting It Up
• After hitting 17-of-33 3-pointers at San Francisco, Dartmouth ranks second in the nation in 3-pointers made (13.4 per game) and sixth in percentage as a team (.440).
• The 107 treys are more than half of the Big Green total made all of last season (200) and puts Dartmouth on pace to hit 401, which would shatter the program record of 263 set in 2001-02.
• Dartmouth started the year with four straight games with at least 10 3-pointers, its longest such streak since a six-game stretch in 2002.
•
Brendan Barry ranks sixth in the country at 58.0 percent (29-of-50) behind the arc while
James Foye is not far behind in 12th at 54.1 percent (20-of-37).
•
Ian Sistare is better than both at 62.1 percent (18-of-29) but is two makes shy of qualifying for the national leaders.
• The Big Green hit 22 trifectas in the season opener, breaking the team record of 18 set in a win over Albany on Jan. 20, 2001.
Bully on Taurus
Freshman point guard
Taurus Samuels continues to improve each time on the floor, and his performance at San Francisco was no exception as he scored in double figures for the first time in his career with 10 points. The rookie hit 3-of-5 from the floor with a pair of treys and both free throws. Apparently he liked that feeling, so he added a season-high 11 points the very next game when the Big Green played Marist at the Belfast Classic. The rookie has averaged 8.8 points over the last four games while shooting 48 percent overall and 50 percent from long range.
