Throughout the summer, DartmouthSports.com will be focusing on members of the Class of 2020 who are currently in their "Sophomore Summers."
This installment features Katie Bourque of the women's lacrosse team. As a sophomore in 2018, Bourque was named to the All-Ivy League First Team as well as the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coach's Association All-Northeast Region First Team. She would finish the year third on the team in both goals (28) and points (40) thanks in large part to her four-goal, five-point game against Penn in the semifinals of the Ivy League Tournament, the best single-game outing of her collegiate career thus far.
DartmouthSports.com: What is your useless/hidden talent?
Katie Bourque: I can make a very believable cricket noise. However, it is essentially 100% useless.
DS: If you could play another sport at Dartmouth, what would it be and why?
KB: I'd love to play basketball here. I played all four years of high school and love the fast pace up and down the court. I sometimes will go and shoot around or play knockout in the gym; it's one of my favorite sports.
DS: What show do you binge watch?
KB: My favorite show to binge watch is
Friday Night Lights. I first watched it in high school, but always come back to it whenever I'm looking for something good and dramatic.
DS: What was it in the recruiting process that sold you on Dartmouth?
KB: All throughout my childhood I've dreamed of going to school at Dartmouth. My dad played lacrosse and football here so I've grown up coming to homecomings and reunions and have loved the school ever since. I especially loved coming up in the fall and seeing all of the beautiful leaves surrounding the campus.
DS: What is your favorite place on campus?
KB: I'd have to say Scully-Fahey Field. I love going there with teammates to shoot around and have a catch. Sometimes we just sit there and admire the woods and the beautiful field we get to play on everyday.
DS: What has been your best on-field memory thus far in your Dartmouth career?
KB: My favorite on field memory thus far was our game against Princeton this past year. This was a big win for us given that the last time we beat them was in 2012. My whole family was there since I am from New Jersey and it was such a good feeling to beat them on their home turf.
DS: Who would play you in the movie of your life?
KB: Mila Kunis, I love her work in
That 70s Show. She's so funny.
DS: What's the app you use most on your phone?
KB: Snapchat for sure. Gotta keep up with my streaks and keep in touch with friends.
DS: What have you been doing during your sophomore summer?
KB: I've been busy taking classes and hanging out with friends. Most days we go to the river or explore the New Hampshire outdoors.
DS: What would be your best advice to your 15-year-old self?
KB: I'd tell my 15-year old self not to worry as much and just to appreciate living at home with your parents more. There are so many things you take for granted about living at home and once you go to school you're on your own.
