HANOVER, N.H. — The Dartmouth men's golf team gets the 2018-19 season under way this weekend as it plays at the Cornell Invitational at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Course at Cornell University.
The Big Green are sending six golfers to Ithaca for the invitational. Senior
John Lazor, juniors
Will Bednarz and
Riley Griffin, sophomore captain
Jason Liu and freshman
Mark Turner will comprise the five-player team, while sophomore
Sam Ohno will compete as an individual. Turner's older brother, sophomore
James Turner, will be out of action this fall but is expected to play again for the spring season.
This is the third straight year Dartmouth is playing at Cornell to begin the season. Last year, the Big Green placed fifth out of 16 teams at 9-over par, just six strokes off the pace set by the champion, Temple. Griffin and the elder Turner finished in a tie for 10th to lead Dartmouth, each carding a 1-over 214, with Bednarz just a stroke behind in a tie for 13th.
The tournament, featuring 15 teams from 13 schools, is scheduled to be three rounds with the first two on Saturday beginning at 7:30 a.m. and the final round on Sunday morning at the 6,904-yard, par-71 course. Dartmouth will compete with four other Ivy League schools — Columbia, host Cornell, Penn and Yale — along with Binghamton, Bucknell, Canisius, Colgate, St. Bonaventure, St. Joseph's, Siena and Temple. Cornell and Penn will both have two teams teeing it up.
