CHULA VISTA, Calif. – Rising sophomores
Emily Henrich and
Ariana Ramsey were among the 12 players named to the 2019 U.S. Pan American Games Women's Sevens team, as announced by USA Rugby on Wednesday.
The games will take place from July 26 through August 11, with rugby played from July 26-28.
The roster will feature 10 players who return from a successful season in the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series, where the United States qualified for the Olympic Games in 2020. Henrich and Ramsey are joining this group of successful players after impressive rookie seasons of their own.
At the 2015 Toronto Pan American Games, USA came away with a silver medal. The 2015 event marked the first-ever inclusion for women's rugby sevens, with the men debuting in the previous cycle in 2011.
Henrich, this year's MA Sorensen Award winner and a NIRA All-American, concluded her freshman fall first in tries (11), second in points (73) and third in conversions (9). She had a career-high 27 points in the 98-7 win over Brown and scored a try in the NIRA Final.
Ramsey had two tries for 10 points, with her first collegiate try coming in the 26-7 NIRA Semifinal victory over Army. She also scored the first try in the 19-14 win over Harvard in the NIRA National Championship game.
